Due to the ongoing mandatory evacuation order and changing forecast for Hurricane Florence, all schools and administrative offices will be closed Friday, Sept. 14. Good evening. This is an important announcement from Virginia Beach City Public Schools.  Because parts of the city remain under a mandatory evacuation order, VBCPS will remain closed tomorrow, Sept. 13. However, all 12-month employees should report to work on time. If you are a 12-month employee who has already evacuated, please contact your supervisor and you may be granted administrative leave. The division is carefully monitoring the weather and staying in contact with state and local agencies. Should the forecast continue to improve, we will be making a decision Thursday as to whether to open schools on Friday. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding during this time and, as always, for your support of Virginia Beach City Public Schools.

Update: 09/10/18 5:15 p.m.

Good evening. This is an important message from Virginia Beach City Public Schools. As you may know, the City of Virginia Beach has declared a state of emergency based on the predicted landfall of Hurricane Florence. The city also determined three of our schools (Kellam High, Old Donation School and Corporate Landing Middle) will open as emergency shelters during the storm. As such, all afternoon and evening activities and events will be cancelled for Wednesday, Sept. 12 to prepare for this. In addition, all schools and administrative offices will be closed Thursday, Sept. 13. As the storm progresses, staff will continue to work closely with city and emergency services and keep you informed of any additional closures by Wednesday, Sept. 12. On behalf of the division, we hope you and your family keep safe during this storm and urge you to take necessary precautions. We also recognize that some of you in evacuation zone A may choose to leave earlier than Thursday. In those instances, please note your child will receive an excused absence for that day. For the most up to date information and available resources, make sure to visit vbgov.com. If there are any other changes to school operations, information will be shared through an Alert Now message, the division social media channels and vbschools.com. Thank you.
