2025-26 federal grant information presented to Virginia Beach School Board

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 13 meeting. For the 2025-26 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $21.6 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

Testing Schedule

As part of the plan to test consumable water sources at all facilities built before 2014, the following schools will be tested during the 2024-25 school year: Kingston ES, Alanton ES, Kempsville HS, First Colonial HS, Bayside MS, Holland ES, Kempsville MS, Pembroke Meadows ES, Point O’View ES, Plaza MS, Tech Center, North Landing ES, Independence MS, Lynnhaven MS, Fairfield ES, Green Run ES, School Admin Building (Building 6), White Oaks ES, Indian Lakes ES and Brandon MS.

Families are notified when testing is scheduled to be conducted in their school and upon successful completion of all testing at that location.

*It is important to note that the Environmental Protection Agency actionable level of 15 ppb of lead in water is markedly below levels that would pose a risk to children. This is an intentional action to ensure the safety of children. VBCPS has been advised by the Virginia Beach Department of Public Health and the University of Virginia’s Clinical Toxicology Program that, based upon reported water lead concentrations, the risk of elevated lead concentrations in children solely from school water consumption, is very low.
