Virginia Beach Summer School

The school division's 2023 Summer School programming will offer opportunities for elementary, middle and high school levels.

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 9 meeting. For the 2023-24 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $16.3 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 9 meeting. Virginia Beach City Public Schools Music Education Program Receives National Recognition

For the 14th straight year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

Current RFP (Request for Proposal)

With the recent approval of the PPEA (Public Private Education Act) interim agreement by the School Board and City Council, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) is beginning the design process for the replacement of four of the division’s oldest schools – Princess Anne High School, Bayside High School, Bayside Sixth Grade Campus and Bettie F. Williams Elementary - with three new school facilities. As part of the process, the school division and S.B. Ballard Construction Company’s (SBBCC) PPEA team are inviting the community to a series of feedback sessions outlined below.
 
Bayside High School community input meetings:

  • May 3 (6-7:30 p.m.) – Bayside HS Library
  • May 31 (6-7:30 p.m.)  – Bayside HS Library
  • Sept 11 (6-7:30 p.m.)  – Bayside HS Library
  • Oct 26 (6-7:30 p.m.) – Bayside HS Library

Princess Anne High School community input meetings:

  • May 3 (6-7:30 p.m.)  – Bayside HS Library 
  • June 1 (6-7:30 p.m.)  – Princess Anne HS Library
  • Sept 13 (6-7:30 p.m.)  – Princess Anne HS Library
  • Oct 25 (6-7:30 p.m.)  – Princess Anne HS Library

Bettie F. Williams Elementary School/Bayside Sixth Grade Campus community input meetings:

VBCPS and S.B. Ballard Construction Company’s PPEA team are seeking input from the community that will be critical in shaping the vision to provide new facilities that will support the current and future educational programs for these schools. In addition to the community meetings, the group is assembling Planning Advisory Teams for each school, comprised of VBCPS teachers, staff, and central office administrators as well as students, parents, and community members.

Projects

The Office of Facilities Services is responsible for new school construction as well as major renovations to school facilities. Facilities Services also manages the division’s real estate portfolio, encompassing ninety assets totaling approximately two thousand acres.
