Model Partners

The Educational Opportunity Center presents to approximately 200 Adult Learning Center students annually including English language learners and GED participants. The Educational Opportunity Center team serves as transitional specialists who assist students upon completing the GED with vocational, academic, and career counseling. Many of these students have enrolled in apprenticeships programs, community colleges, and four-year universities.

At Corporate Landing Middle School, Grace Bible Church provides mentors for students who have been identified as benefiting from additional support and encouragement both academically and emotionally. This partnership also adopted 15 families and 25 children in need during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays providing food, clothing and gifts. At Green Run High School Grace Bible Church provided student enrichment during their advisory block by coordinating guest speakers to speak to students about potential careers and financial management. Grace Bible Church also helped with a brand-new event, a community tailgate, before football games which brought the entire community together for fellowship.

Each month, upwards of 100 students from all grade levels and all demographics participate in activities, called the Pop-Up Library. Recently, that outreach has continued but in a virtual setting. Monthly outreach activities including library card sign-ups, book clubs, an anime club, drones and robotics, arts &crafts, cooking and so much more are aimed at bringing a piece of the public library to the school.

This partnership focuses on student well-being and educational excellence. The church hosts a safe learning center free of charge to insure that students are provided with an inclusive learning environment that promotes strengthening the social­emotional skills needed to become balanced, resilient learners, who are personally and socially responsible. Creating a safe learning center at the church was a way to address inequities in achievement outcomes because it provides a safe, nurturing, comfortable environment for ALL students.

Klett Consulting Group recognizes the value in investing time, resources and industry expertise into students. They conduct master classes for students and provide Kempsville High School Staff members with curriculum support from industry professionals in the Cyber Security field. Students gain knowledge and authentic experiences that allow them to explore industries from an invested perspective. Klett Consulting Group is able to share and implement their Cyber Hygiene initiatives with our students and staff and are also able to tap into the talents of our student interns, leading to the potential in the future to hire for positions within the company.

Lockheed Martin provides students with a level of social emotional support that is unlike any other. This partnership supports African American young men supported by the special education program by providing supplies, books, and educational based resources to students. In support of the kindergarteners, Lockheed Martin generously provided pumpkins for all 70 kindergarten student at the school when the annual field trip to the pumpkin patch had to be cancelled. Many of these students have never had the experience of going to a pumpkin patch, but Lockheed Martin made it happen. In addition, for the third year running, Lockheed Martin was able to supply almost 95% of the school’s Angel Tree participants.

Marathon Consulting staff visited classrooms, donated to summer camp, attended specific events for Girls in STEM, and provided state curriculum review benefiting teachers and students in Virginia so students may be better prepared to meet industry needs. As a result of Marathon's advising, curriculum changes were possible allowing for a better trained, highly marketable employee ready to enter the workforce.

Together We Can Foundation specializes in working with at-risk populations. The goal of the organization is to partner with schools to better preparing students to enter the workforce. The Smart Transitions Life-Work Portfolio Course is designed to help youth develop a personal "brand" which defines and clarifies how they want to be seen by the world and what kind of image they want to present. They also develop a set of practical tools for success in the adult world, including life-work plans, a professional resume, personal presentation portfolios, and refined personal presentation skills. This partnership provides time, support, and mentors during the student's school day. Together We Can provides a physical portfolio for students to bring on job interviews.
