Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) students continued to demonstrate strong academic performance on the 2025-2026 Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) assessments, outperforming the state on every reading, writing, science and history assessment, and on all mathematics assessments except Grade 7 Math.

2026-27 federal grant information presented to Virginia Beach School Board

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 12 meeting. For the 2026-27 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $18.9 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

Procedures for All Volunteers and Partners

During the 2024–2025 school year, more than 8,000 Volunteers and Partners in Education donated over 23,000 hours of service in Virginia Beach City Public Schools. The value of this service is estimated to be approximately $812,000*. *Calculations based on the Independent Sector Organization’s estimated value of volunteer time for 2024 which is $34.79 per hour.
  • Complete a Volunteer Registration or a Partners in Education Information form or contact a Virginia Beach School or the Office of Family & Community Engagement.
  • Report to the security desk to sign in and out when visiting a school. All volunteers and partners will be asked to scan a valid driver’s license or military ID and wear identification badges provided by the school while participating in partnership and volunteer activities inside a school building.
  • Work under the direction of and in collaboration with school staff to plan and implement volunteer or partnership activities. Instructing, supervising, grading and disciplining students are school staff responsibilities. Communicate with staff to ensure expectations are understood.
  • Comply with all federal, state and local statutes, ordinances, regulations and guidelines, as well as all School Board policies.
  • Adhere to the Virginia Beach City Public Schools Volunteer Code of Ethics.
  • Log your volunteer hours online.

Please note: The use of school facilities owned by the School Board will be determined by school staff and may require a Facilities Use Agreement.

Code of Ethics

Dependability - A volunteer shall be responsible for his/her scheduled times and must notify the school staff if not able to meet this commitment.

Respect for Authority - A volunteer shall respect the authority of the school and the school administration.

Confidentiality - A volunteer shall not discuss school matters or information concerning students outside the classroom with anyone but the designated school staff.

Impartiality - A volunteer shall favor no one side or party more than another in all school situations.

Objectivity - A volunteer shall not let his/her personal feelings enter into his/her work as a volunteer.

Appearance - A volunteer shall dress appropriately, always remembering that he/she is setting an example for the students.
