Virginia Beach City Public Schools students outperform state on SOL tests

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) students continued to demonstrate strong academic performance on the 2025-2026 Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) assessments, outperforming the state on every reading, writing, science and history assessment, and on all mathematics assessments except Grade 7 Math.

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 12 meeting. For the 2026-27 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $18.9 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

In 2000, VBCPS began recognizing outstanding partnership practices that support mutually beneficial relationships between schools and business/community organizations. Through a nomination process and selection committee comprised of school and community representatives, Model Partnerships are selected each year that represent exemplary community engagement in our school division.
