Annual School Report Cards

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We are pleased to provide you with the 22nd annual school report card, Campus Compass, which contains information about your child's school. Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) publishes annual school report cards so you may track the many aspects of your child's school and evaluate success over time.

As in previous years, each report card contains information about student and staff characteristics, perceptions of educational quality, attendance and school performance. The annual school report card aligns directly with our strategic framework, Compass to 2020, and provides data related to each of the four goal areas: high academic expectations, multiple pathways for students, social-emotional development, and a culture of growth and excellence within the school division.

Compass to 2020 is an ambitious strategic framework, and we are committed to the continuous improvement of our schools to ensure that our students graduate with globally competitive skills. This kind of tireless commitment highlights the vision of VBCPS and has led to many accomplishments and public accolades, including being named by the School Superintendents Association (AASA) as one of the nation's top 25 school divisions in the country for innovation. VBCPS is the only school division in Southside Hampton Roads where 100% of VBCPS testing schools earned full accreditation for the third consecutive year. VBCPS also continues to reach all-time high graduation rates and maintain lowest-ever dropout rates, which not only set division records but are better than the rates for the state of Virginia. Additionally, Virginia's Governor and the state Board of Education (BOE) recognized the division and 13 of its schools with Virginia Index of Performance Awards for exceeding state and federal accountability guidelines as well as achieving excellence goals. The BOE also awarded 15 Exemplar Performance School Awards to VBCPS schools, the most of any Hampton Roads city.

We could not accomplish these achievements without all of you - our students, teachers, staff, community and family members. We hope that you will continue to help us succeed through your commitment to your child's education and by taking an active role at your child's school.

If you have any questions about the contents of a specific school report card, please contact the school's principal or the Office of Planning, Innovation and Accountability at 757.263.1199.

Sincerely,
Aaron C. Spence, Ed.D.
