All 67,000 Public School Students to Receive Public Library Accounts

Virginia Beach Public Library (VBPL) and Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) have long partnered to ensure that Virginia Beach children have high quality educational opportunities and resources in the classroom and beyond. Now the two organizations are working together to ensure that all 67,000 public school students in grades K - 12 have automatic access to VBPL's digital resources. Beginning May 1, 2019, VBCPS student ID numbers will double as VBPL account numbers, providing immediate, anytime access to powerful online research tools, e-books, digital magazines and more.

"We are pleased to continue partnering with Virginia Beach City Public Schools in order to provide our youngest residents with around-the-clock access to Virginia Beach Public Library's valuable digital resources," said Mayor Robert M. "Bobby" Dyer. "Such partnerships illustrate how Virginia Beach is a 'City of Yes' in support of student success."

"I am excited to be partnering with Virginia Beach Public Library to ensure each and every one of our 67,000 students have access to such important resources," said VBCPS Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence. "Our goal is to have every student reading at or above grade-level, and what better way to improve literacy than with 24/7 access to reading materials and digital learning resources."
