Back to School

Welcome Back to School

Welcome back to school! To help new and returning VBCPS families get ready, we have provided a few quick tips and reminders below. Staff at all our schools are eager and excited to help you with the transition back. See you soon!

New to VBCPS?

  • Register your child now before the start of school, if you haven’t already. This helps our schools plan for your child’s arrival and manage staffing and resources effectively.
  • Visit your child’s school website for more information about your school community and to stay up-to-date.

Health Forms and Immunizations

  • Ensure your child has all necessary forms and immunizations completed.
  • Relay any allergy or other specific student medication information to the clinic at your child’s school before the school year starts.

Nutrition at School – School Meals Information

As our schools welcome back students Sept. 9, please know that VBCPS will be providing free breakfast and lunch meals for ALL students. Food Services will be operating under the National School Lunch Program’s (NSLP) Seamless Summer Option (SSO). This program will be in effect for the entire 2021-22 school year.

Virtual students can pick up their daily meals at any school site. As was done last school year, the designated pickup site will be clearly marked. Due to limited staff and in order to keep from interfering with regular meal service, meals must be picked up between:

  • 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at elementary sites,
  • 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at middle school sites, and
  • 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at high schools.

Should you need an alternate time, please contact the school manager and make arrangements. Updates and current details can be found on the Office of Food Services website.

How will payments of a la carte meals be processed?
We will commence the school year by serving complete reimbursable meals only. A la carte items will be offered should your school decide to begin a la carte service.

Are Free and Reduced Price meal applications available on
Parents should continue to submit Free and Reduced Price meal applications to maintain eligibility in our Point of Service system and to establish eligibility for other benefits for the 2021-22 school year. Most parents (95%) currently submit applications through their SchoolCafé online accounts, but new school year paper applications will be sent to schools prior to the start of school.

Since many parents use their benefits acceptance letter to qualify for reduced prices on afterschool care, reduced cable and/or insurance bills, etc., they must have a current school year processed application on file for an award letter to be generated. Parents that submitted applications last school year will maintain last year’s eligibility until October 20, 2021. All new applications must be submitted prior to that date or student eligibility will automatically convert to “Paid” status.

Who should parents contact if they need assistance in regard to food service?
Questions should be directed to the Office of Food Services at 263-1101 or by e-mail to [email protected].
