Summer Learning Boost for High School

This enrichment course is designed for students scheduled to take Algebra 1 next school year. The focus of this course is to strengthen the student’s pre-algebra skills to develop mathematical concepts and prepare students for Algebra I. Students will explore simplifying expressions, solving equations and inequalities and graphing lines. Through this course, students will build their confidence in mathematics, become problem solvers, communicate mathematically and learn to reason using mathematics. Students do not earn a grade for this program as it is intended to allow students to build confidence in mathematics content, skills and practices.

This enrichment course is designed for students scheduled to take Algebra 2 or Algebra 2/Trig next school year. The focus of this course is to strengthen the student’s algebra and geometric skills to develop mathematical concepts and prepare students for Algebra 2 or Algebra 2/Trig. Students will explore how to graph, transform, simplify and solve polynomial functions. Through this course, students will build their confidence in mathematics, become problem solvers, communicate mathematically and learn to reason using mathematics.

Students do not earn a grade for this program as it is intended to allow students to build confidence in mathematics content, skills and practices.

This enrichment course is designed for students scheduled to take Geometry next school year. The focus of this course is to strengthen the student’s algebraic and geometric skills to develop mathematical concepts and prepare students for Geometry. Students will explore the different geometric shapes with a focus on triangles, linear equations and parallel lines. Through this course, students will build their confidence in mathematics, become problem solvers, communicate mathematically and learn to reason using mathematics. Students do not earn a grade for this program as it is intended to allow students to build confidence in mathematics content, skills and practices.

This enrichment course is designed for students scheduled to take Precalculus next school year. The focus of this course is to strengthen the student’s algebra and geometric skills to develop mathematical concepts and prepare students for Precalculus. Students will explore how to graph, transform, simplify and solve functions: rational, logarithmic, exponential and trigonometric. Through this course, students will build their confidence in mathematics, become problem solvers, communicate mathematically and learn to reason using mathematics. Students do not earn a grade for this program as it is intended to allow students to build confidence in mathematics content, skills and practices.

This preparatory program is designed for students who are scheduled to enroll in Earth Science for the first time in the upcoming school year. This program will help:

1. Further students’ understanding of core Earth Science concepts, and
2. Strengthen students’ foundational skills in the science and engineering practices they will need to be successful in Earth Science.

While students have a foundation of Earth Science topics in grade six science, the focus of the prep program will be to refresh basic content knowledge and skills.

Students do not earn a grade for this program as it is intended to allow students to build confidence in science content, skills and practices commonly used in Earth Science.

This preparatory program is designed for students who are scheduled to enroll in Biology for the first time in the upcoming school year. This program will help:

1. Further students’ understanding of core Biology concepts, and
2. Strengthen students’ foundational skills in the science and engineering practices they will need to be successful in Biology.

While students have a foundation of Biology topics through middle school science classes, the focus of the prep program will be to refresh basic content knowledge and skills.

Students do not earn a grade for this program as it is intended to allow students to build confidence in science content, skills and practices commonly used in Biology.

This preparatory program is designed for students who are scheduled to enroll in Chemistry for the first time in the upcoming school year. This program will help:

1. Further students’ understanding of core Chemistry concepts, and
2. Strengthen students’ foundational skills in the science and engineering practices they will need to be successful in Chemistry.

While students have a foundation of Chemistry topics through middle school science classes, the focus of the prep program will be to refresh basic content knowledge and skills.

Students do not earn a grade for this program as it is intended to allow students to build confidence in science content, skills and practices commonly used in Chemistry.

This preparatory program is designed for students who are scheduled to enroll in Physics for the first time in the upcoming school year. This program will help:

1. Further students’ understanding of core Physics concepts, and
2. Strengthen students’ foundational skills in the science and engineering practices they will need to be successful in Physics.

While students have a foundation of Physics topics through middle school science classes, the focus of the prep program will be to refresh basic content knowledge and skills.
