The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 9 meeting. For the 2023-24 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $16.3 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

Virginia Beach City Public Schools Music Education Program Receives National Recognition

For the 14th straight year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

Partnerships between community groups, businesses and schools are integral to public education in Virginia Beach. These partnerships are mutually supportive. They improve student wellness while enriching the relationship between schools, businesses, government agencies, faith-based groups and other organizations.

2023 HIGH SCHOOL Summer School Opportunities and Registration

The 2023 high school summer programs provide opportunities for:

  • Virginia Beach Digital Campus credit courses for students who want to accelerate their program of study or those behind in credits needing a full course to stay on the proper graduation schedule. (VBDC) Course dates are June 21 - August 7.
  • Repeat courses are only for students who did not successfully complete a course during the regular school year (Repeat Face to Face Courses)
  • Preparation opportunities for select math or science courses to develop skills for the upcoming school year (Boosts)
  • English as a Second Language courses for students who are identified limited in English (English as a Second language)
  • SOL Fast Track Tutoring to retake an SOL course to meet the Standards of Learning (SOL) verified credit diploma criteria.

Virginia Beach Digital Campus (VBDC) electronic registration and payment begins on May 1, 2023 at 12:00 p.m./ noon through the Web Store. Registration closes on June 15, 2023 at 12:00 p.m./ noon. VBDC course electronic registration and payment must be completed before leaving the webstore. Students are not officially registered until payment is processed through the webstore. A student identification number (lunch number) will need to be provided at the time of registration. Students may be registered to take up to two VBDC courses. 

Repeat face-to-face course electronic registration and payment begins on May 1, 2023 at 12:00 p.m./ noon through the Web Store. Registration closes on June 21, 2023 at 12:00 p.m./ noon. Repeat face-to-face course electronic registration and payment must be completed before leaving the webstore. Students are not officially registered until payment is processed through the webstore. A student identification number (lunch number) will need to be provided at the time of registration. Students may be registered to take one REPEAT course each session. 

Boost opportunities will be accessed through Schoology using a course code. There is no electronic registration or payment required for Boost opportunities. 

Registration for English as a Second Language Summer School Courses for eligible English Learners will be processed by each school.. There is no electronic registration or payment required for English as a Second Language. 

Registration for SOL Fast Track Tutoring will be processed by each school. There is no electronic registration or payment required for SOL Fast Track Tutoring. 

Registration for Special Education Summer School Opportunities will be processed by each school.
