Summer School

The school division's 2018 Summer School sessions are scheduled to begin Tuesday, June 26. Only students whose parents are residents of Virginia Beach are eligible to attend summer school classes.

Registration for Online Courses


Students who are interested in enrolling in online summer school classes should visit the Virginia Beach Digital Campus summer school webpage.

Registration for Face-to-Face Courses (High School)


Before registering for any high school summer school courses, parents should contact their child’s school counselor to confirm the student’s eligibility to enroll in a summer school course. This includes current eighth-grade students who are rising ninth-graders who want to enroll in a high school course offered in summer school.

Beginning May 29, parents/students will be able to register online for face-to-face summer school high school courses. Registration and payment for courses will be processed online through the Virginia Beach City Public Schools Web Store. Registration and payment for face-to-face high school courses will be accepted via the web store through June 26 at noon and must be completed before leaving the registration website in order for a student to be enrolled. Students are not officially registered until payment has been received. Access to the web store also is available using any mobile device.

On-site registration for face-to-face summer school high school courses will be held at the summer school sites Tuesday, June 19, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. and Wednesday, June 20 from 8 a.m. to noon. Students must register at the designated host site for their school (see high school sites below). Computers will be available for parents/students to register and pay for summer school courses using the Virginia Beach City Public Schools Web Store. Payment must be paid in full at the time of registration by cash, check, money order, or credit card. The owner of the credit card must present the card.

Middle School Summer School Registration

Families of middle school students must provide their student identification number at the time of registration and bring their schedule or report card from the third grading period showing the preprinted student ID number. Tuition must be paid in full at the time of registration. Payment may be made by cash, check, money order, or credit card. The owner of the credit card must present the card.

Registration for Special Education and English as a Second Language (ESL) summer programs is not processed at the registration events held June 19 and June 20. Information about these programs and the registration procedures will be sent to each school.

Students who show proof at registration that they are re-taking a high school course that they have previously failed may register for a half-summer (70-hour) course that will be scheduled during Session 1 or Session 2. Students taking a course for the first time should register for a full-summer course (140 hours) which is scheduled to run from June 26 - August 13.
