Community Advisory Committee for Gifted Education (CAC)

The VBCPS Community Advisory Committee for Gifted Education (CAC) provides essential insights and information to the School Board regarding the academic, social, and emotional needs of all identified gifted students in the school division. The committee includes parents of gifted students and community members as voting members. Local school personnel and gifted students serve as ex-officio non-voting members. The duties of the CAC are comprised of the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Review periodically the Local Plan for the Education of the Gifted, including revisions.
  • Determine the extent to which local the plan for the previous year was implemented.
  • Develop annual goals and recommendations.
  • Represent the community of gifted learners and all related stakeholders.
  • Encourage a collaborative relationship between school division staff and the community.
  • Become knowledgeable about current programs, research, and best practices in gifted education and its relationships with general education.
  • Focus attention on issues relative to improving the educational services for gifted students.
  • Submit written recommendations of the Committee to the Superintendent and the School Board.

To contact the Gifted CAC, please email Jennifer McKendree, CAC Chairperson or contact the Office of K-12 and Gifted Programs at 757.263.1188.

All CAC meetings are open to the public. Guests are welcome to attend. Only members of the CAC may participate in any part of the meeting other than the public comment portion of the meeting. The CAC encourages all citizens to communicate with any member regarding matters related to gifted education and the work of the CAC. Due to the limited time scheduled to conduct business and the need to follow approved agenda items, the CAC Chairperson asks that guests seeking to ask questions or comment during the meeting may do so by contacting committee members through other methods of communication, including emailing the Committee Chairperson.
