Controversial Issues
To implement the board's policy dealing with controversial issues in the classroom, the following guidelines are to be observed:
- Controversial issues should not be taught, but rather students should be provided with opportunities for their study.
- Controversial topics should be dealt with as impartially and objectively as possible.
- All such topics should be handled in a manner suited to the range of knowledge, maturity, and competence of your students.
- Teaching materials dealing with all possible aspects of the topics should be readily available.
- When the teacher is in doubt about the advisability of taking up a given "hot" topic, he/she should consult with the principal.
