Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) has once again received national recognition for its commitment to providing students with access and excellence in the arts. For the 17th time, VBCPS has been named a Best Community for Music Education by The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation.
The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 12 meeting. For the 2026-27 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $18.9 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).
Students and staff of Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) benefit from the support of over 1,700 community partners each year. Partnerships between community groups, businesses and schools are integral to public education in Virginia Beach.
At its Jan. 13 meeting, the School Board of the City of Virginia Beach reelected Kathleen Brown as chair and Carolyn Weems as vice chair.

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has released school results under Virginia’s redesigned two-part model, which separates Accreditation from the School Performance and Support Framework (SPSF). These measures provide a more detailed view of school quality and student outcomes across the state.
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released Standard of Learning (SOL) pass rate data on Aug. 27. The overall SOL pass rates for Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) exceeded the state pass rates in all subject areas.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) will host the Back-to-School Care Fair at the Virginia Beach Convention Center on Aug. 15 to help families take advantage of valuable resources in the division and community.
The free event is open to all VBCPS families and will feature more than 100 youth-serving community partners. Families can look forward to entertainment, free backpacks and school supplies (while supplies last), and a variety of other giveaways and activities for all ages.

Students will also receive free haircuts, vision screenings, school entry physicals, and required school vaccinations for seventh and 12th graders. Sports physicals are not offered at this event. To receive a physical and/or vaccinations, parents should bring an ID, vaccination record and insurance card (if available).
“Our Back-to-School Care Fair brings together the people, programs and resources that help every child walk into school ready to learn and thrive,” said Superintendent Dr. Donald Robertson Jr. “Together with our community partners, we are helping to ensure every student has the support and confidence they need to succeed.”
