These measures provide a more detailed view of school quality and student outcomes across the state.

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released Standard of Learning (SOL) pass rate data on Aug. 27. The overall SOL pass rates for Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) exceeded the state pass rates in all subject areas.

2025-26 federal grant information presented to Virginia Beach School Board

The Virginia Beach School Board received information about proposed federal grant applications at its May 13 meeting. For the 2025-26 school year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) would receive approximately $21.6 million in formula grant funds through programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) is bringing exciting enhancements to transportation operations for both families and staff with the Zum technology platform. This innovative platform includes GPS tracking and sophisticated routing software that will further ensure safety, efficiency and transparency when driving our students to and from school.

The free event is open to all VBCPS families and will feature more than 100 youth-serving community partners. Families can look forward to entertainment, free backpacks for the first 4,000 students, and a variety of other giveaways and activities for all ages.

Students will also receive free haircuts, vision screenings, school entry physicals, and required school vaccinations for seventh and 12th graders. Sports physicals are not offered at this event. To receive a physical and/or vaccinations, parents should bring an ID, vaccination record and insurance card (if available).

“This event is a great way for families to connect with our community while receiving resources in support of student success,” said Superintendent Dr. Donald Robertson Jr. “We are grateful to the many staff and community partners who are stepping up to make sure our students have what they need to start the school year strong.”
