Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) values and promotes active engagement of the community in all our schools. The Office of Family and Community Engagement coordinates many volunteer opportunities for community members to interact and contribute to the academic achievement of our students and the overall continuous improvement of VBCPS.
From among the exemplary Volunteers of the Year, the Virginia Beach Council of PTAs (VBPTA) selected the following elementary-level and secondary-level volunteers as the 2025 Citywide Volunteers of the Year:
Amy Torres, Birdneck Elementary School, Citywide Volunteer of the Year - Primary Schools
Kelly Siegel, Corporate Landing Middle School, Citywide Volunteer of the Year - Secondary Schools
Parents, guardians, community members and military personnel are able to support students, staff and school initiatives through the Volunteers in Education program. Thousands of individuals serve as volunteers in our schools each year. During the 2024–2025 school year, more than 8,000 volunteers donated over 20,000 hours of service in VBCPS.
