2003-2004 School Year

United States Postal Service (WEE Deliver)
City-wide Partnership

During the last 10 years, nineteen Virginia Beach Public schools have had the opportunity to set up in-school postal systems via the US Postal Services "Wee Deliver" program. Students have had the opportunity to apply for "jobs" such as postmaster, letter carrier, sorter, and nixie clerk. School hallways are labeled with street names, and in-school addresses are established. Mail is circulated through the "central post office" within the school, encouraging students to write and interact with one another. The post office staff provides "Wee Deliver" boxes, mini satchels, stamps, "retired" postal uniforms, incentives and rewards. Students learn leadership skills through their roles in the program, and have the opportunity to practice workplace skills such as punctuality, task completion, teamwork, and knowing the satisfaction and pride of a job well done. This Model Partnership really "delivers" for VBCPS!
