Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital in partnership with
Virginia Beach Technical & Career Education Center

This partnership, which has existed for over thirty years and has graduated more than 600 practical nursing students , is a model for "healthy" interaction between school and community. Through the generosity of Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, students have had the opportunity to acquire nursing skills in an actual hospital setting-including Medical Surgical Units, Orthopedics, the Mother-Baby Unit, the Intensive care Unit, and Cardiac and Oncology Units. They also encourage students to participate in in-services and skills training classes, allowing them to remain current in procedures, policies and equipment. Students also gain experience in a Preceptor program, where they are paired with experienced nurses who mentor them and hold them to the same standard of care as a licensed practical nurse. Through this mutually beneficial partnership, students are prepared for service to the community in the hospital setting.
