Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse
Princess Anne High School
Since 1997, the "World of Work" (WOW) class has existed at Princess Anne High School with the goal of promoting discipline, academic excellence, goal setting, and future planning skills in at-risk female students. The Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse (DMHMSRA) program strives to empower young women through development of personal skills and awareness of life choices and decisions. Career options and potential are explored through exposure to the "World of Work", as students participate in career educational practicums, Self-Directed Search Tests, and use of computers in the Career Academic Preparation (CAP) Lab, through access to the Bridges Software Program. Twenty-two students are better equipped to make productive career choices through use of this technology. In total, approximately 200 students have received awards for better academic achievement, improved attendance and decision-making skills, and personal growth and responsibility. This "issue focused and solution driven" program has empowered Princess Anne High School Students with the skills and confidence they need to face their futures!
