Virginia Wesleyan College Baseball Team and Point O'View Elementary Beginning in 1999, the Virginia Wesleyan Baseball Team has provided academic, emotional and monetary support for Point O'View students, including at-risk families in the school community. The coach and members of his team have tutored individuals and groups, served as positive male role models for students, assisted students with the Accelerated Reader program and participated in Field Day. For families in need of a little assistance, these partners have offered help in the form of donated mattresses and box springs; baseball camp scholarships; holiday baskets, gift certificates and turkey dinners; and even in-school babysitting for a Parents' Night Out. As a result of this partnership, the school reports improved academic performance, especially in reading, and increased self-esteem, physical fitness, and positive influences in the students' lives. Point O'View has certainly hit a home run with this partnership.  |
