Rotary Club of Hampton Roads and Kempsville High and Plaza Elementary Schools The Rotary Club of Hampton Roads generously provides human, material and financial resources at both of these schools. Since 1998, at Kempsville High, this organization has sponsored clubs and programs benefiting students and families at home and abroad, as well as providing a $500 Teacher of the Year Grant to a faculty member. Members of the Club have also served as outside readers of Lisette Piccillo's senior English students' portfolios. The Club's involvement at Plaza Elementary is similarly widespread, though focused more specifically on reading through the STAR program (Soaring Toward Achievement in Reading), coordinated by Amy Homesley, reading specialist. More than a decade old, this program funds a variety of opportunities, including an after school tutoring program. Hampton Roads Rotary Club clearly supports stellar achievement at both Kempsville High and Plaza Elementary.  |
