Model Partnerships
2002-2003 School Year

Navy Safety Center (NSC) and Salem Elementary School Since 1995, the NSC has put down deep roots at Salem Elementary. Annually, the NSC volunteers improve the quality of life for students at Salem by offering their assistance with community service projects. Academically, they provide tutor/mentors to at-risk students; small and large-group tutors at all grade levels; guest speakers who emphasize real life application of core disciplines; and assistance in P.E. classes, in computer labs and at educational nights. When deployed, their postcards from around the world are used to enhance geography lessons. The school recently broke ground on their new Living Classroom, partially funded by a grant from the Virginia Beach Schools Education Foundation, and the NSC was on hand, offering tools, supplies and manpower. The seeds of success sewn eight years ago are in full bloom with this partnership at Salem.
