Partners in Education
Model Partnerships
2002-2003 School Year

Navy Public Works Center (NPWC)
and Technical & Career Education Center

These two centers have collaborated on the successful development of a "working model internship" for workforce readiness to help students make a seamless transition from school to work and to provide the NPWC with a potential pool of trained employees. Through an application process, two rising seniors in Electricity, HVAC, Plumbing and Welding are matched with mentors from the NPWC. The Tech Center staff conducts mentor training and facilitates orientations for participants at the school, while the NPWC offers tours of their site. Interns work full-time at the NPWC in the summer. Upon graduation, they are hired on as full-time employees, with full benefits, as positions become available. They attend night courses to further their training and are reimbursed for the cost of the courses upon successful completion of each. This partnership brings together much more than a few good men and women to provide quality career employment and lifelong learning for our students.
