2001 Exemplary Partnership Award Winner

USS Kearsarge and Landstown Elementary School The USS Kearsarge and Landstown Elementary entered into partnership in 1998 with the goal of providing positive role models for Landstown students while helping the Kearsarge's sailors feel they were having a positive impact and serving the community. Volunteers from the Kearsarge served as tutors one full day each week in the classroom, during which time some mentoring relationships have developed; as guest speakers who discussed their role on the ship and how doing well in school has helped them with their careers; as role models and presenters for career day, and as P.E. Buddies who spend one full day each week joining the P.E. classes, and also as Special Event Volunteers who assisted with Santa's Secret Shop, PTA Family Nights, and Field Day.
