Projects

The Virginia Beach Education Foundation marked its ninth year of awarding funds to Virginia Beach City Public Schools teachers for educational projects the teachers designed for their students. At its annual Teacher Grants Improve Futures (TGIF) Celebration on November 15, 2007, the Education Foundation doled out $120,000 in the form of grants; 116 for the 2007-2008 school year.

The 2008 Commemorative Print, “The Beginning,” by Dottie Holtz, computer resource specialist at Thoroughgood Elementary School is available.

School-Wide Grants

For the 2007-2008 school year, the Education Foundation Board of Directors awarded $25,000 to Virginia Beach City Public Schools administrators for school-wide projects. In the form of School-Wide Grants, seven different schools were given up to $5,000 each to implement projects that will enhance their students' educational opportunities.

Building Futures Grants

The Education Foundation has awarded more than $469,500 in Building Futures Grants benefiting students, in grades K-12, in public schools across the City.  As a result, thousands of teachers collaborated to complete innovative projects in their classrooms.

Student Scholarships

Scholarships are available through donor designations.  If you would like to establish a scholarship to benefit VBCPS graduating seniors or teachers furthering their education, please contact the Education Foundation office at 757.263.1069 or e-mail debbie.thomas@vbschools.com.

House Building Projects

Six single-family dwellings have been successfully planned, financed, constructed and sold since the Education Foundation’s inception. These projects have impacted the Virginia Beach City Public Schools in the following ways:

  • Hands-on training provided to over 80 Technical and Career Education students annually
  • Scholarships and grants awarded from the net profits totaling over $300,000
  • Community involvement in the form of donations of materials and time valued at over $150,000 per house

Golf Tournament

The 13th Annual VBPS Education Foundation Golf Tournament raised over $39,000 for the fifth consecutive year, thanks to sponsors, donors, and volunteers! Funds generated at this event support the Education Foundation’s Building Futures Grant program.
