VOY

Meet our 2008 Volunteers of the Year

VOY

Independence Middle School Mary Bre

Mary has been mistaken as a full-time employee because of her active involvement at Independence. In addition to creating a VIE listserv and conducting training, she helps teachers, prepares mailings, and fundraises. IMS thanks this "selfless" volunteer!

VOY Kempsville Elementary School
Dianna McDowell

Dianna is credited with bringing many curriculum-related programs to KES along with initiating five Destination ImagiNation teams. Called "super human," she works at evening events, finds guest speakers, and helps in classrooms. She is "outstanding!"

VOY

Indian Lakes Elementary School
Melanie Dickinson

Being the PTA Newsletter editor and VIE coordinator keeps this PTA Board member busy, but she also volunteers in the library and in classrooms. "Melanie is proof of how teachers, parents, and the community can work effectively to assist students."

VOY

Kempsville High School
Kathleen Rupprecht

Kathleen serves as the Booster Club President, PTSA Executive Board Member, a guidance volunteer, and is a dedicated parent.  She "leads by example," and her "dedication to and caring for KHS will truly be missed" after a decade of service.

VOY John B. Dey Elementary School
Lisa Trainor

As PTA Treasurer, Lisa has made many accounting improvements that have helped all. In classrooms, she works with students, makes copies, helps in the science lab, and more. John B. Dey applauds this "positive, productive, and dedicated volunteer!"

VOY

Kempsville Middle School
Lisa Saunders

This PTA Treasurer has a "can do, will do, get it done" attitude that is admired by many! Lisa has helped raise significant funds for the PTA and serves as co-chair for the Boosters.  She is a responsible and dependable volunteer for Kempsville Middle.

VOY Kellam High School
Andrea Correia

Andrea is “always willing to lend a hand” to the Knights! She organized an indoor flea market with over 50 vendors to raise money for the Celebrate Life party, and she is an active Booster Club board member. Kellam is grateful for her spirit and smiles!

VOY

Kempsville Meadows Elementary School
Terri Sawyer

In her first year as a volunteer, Terri has made a great impression with her "diligence, generosity and joyful attitude!"  She serves as a room mother and copies and collates materials for all teachers. The library benefits from her service as well.

VOY Kemps Landing Magnet School
Nancy Miller

A dedicated volunteer in the school store, Nancy also helps the band, chaperones field trips, and assists two teams. Her "cheery attitude" and "professional support" makes Nancy a favorite volunteer at Kemps Landing.

VOY

King's Grant Elementary School
Mary Richardson

As VIE Coordinator, this Students are reading more thanks to the generous giving of time and resources by this volunteer. Often confused as a staff member, Mary's "dedication is endless." She helps with instruction, decorations, reading - you name it. KGES can't thank her enough!
