Meet our 2008 Volunteers of the Year

VOY

Cox High School
Janis Prock

A PTSA volunteer for over two decades, Janis is playing an “invaluable role” at Cox.  Chairing the All-Night Grad Party and Booster Club committees, this volunteer still makes time to be “team mom” for both Cox volleyball teams and attends every game.

VOY

Creeds Elementary School
Whitney Irizarry

When she's not creating the PTA newsletter, planning monthly teacher luncheons, or working in classrooms, Whitney is helping with any and all school activities.  She's "a consistent support system for teachers" and the students "can't wait" to see her

VOY

Fairfield Elementary School
Cathie Brown

Cathie can be found lending a hand at Fairfield almost daily. A PTA Board member, she also helps with the Take Home Reading program, Talent Show, Drama Club, and coordinates the student directory. Many teachers are grateful for Cathie's extra help.

VOY

First Colonial High School
Sue Budorick

A mother of four, this “hard working, dedicated, self starter” helped the school PTSA exceed its fundraising goal by over $5,000.  Sue’s “perseverance and boundless energy” are valued by many at FCHS.  They love her Patriot pride!

VOY

Glenwood Elementary School
Rosa Choiniere

Known to take home work with her, Glenwood teachers call this volunteer "priceless!"  Rosa is "creative, outgoing, generous" and always asks what she can do to help.  Bulletin boards, copies, special projects - the Gators say she's "outstanding!"

VOY

Great Neck Middle School
Heather Malaby

While she serves as the Virginia Beach Council PTA President, Heather still spends "countless hours" at Great Neck ensuring the marquee is up to date, helping the band, and volunteering at school activities. Her community volunteerism is valued by many.

VOY

Green Run Elementary School
Fran Bouchard

This volunteer's efforts have lead to tens of thousands of dollars in Specialty Fundraising points and funds for Green Run.  Fran also oversees the Books are Great program and helps in the library. She is "dependable" and "sets a good example" for all!

VOY

Green Run High School
Mary Levin

Called a “great role model” for parents and students, Mary is a dedicated supporter of the NJROTC and serves on many PTSA committees.  The Stallions salute her “commitment and compassion” for working hard to serve students and to better their education.

VOY

Hermitage Elementary School
Kasha Winston

Third, fourth, and fifth grade teachers are grateful to this volunteer for "lightening their load." Fran "always goes above and beyond" what is requested and serves on many school committees. Students are fans of visits from her four-legged SPCA friends.

VOY

Holland Elementary School
Sandra King

For a decade, this current PTA President has supported Holland with her "positive attitude and team spirit."  Sandra treats every child "as if they were her very own" and has initiated many student-centered activities.  She is a "valuable asset!"
