Adult Learning Center - Maureen Schugardt
A "valued resource" for the adult learning center, this volunteer gives 12 hours each week to support ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) program. Her knowledge of the English language and her rapport with students make her an invaluable asset.
Bayside High - Gerry Liette
The band's all here, (and ready), thanks to volunteer Gerry Liette. In charge of thousands of dollars worth of equipment, this detailed oriented parent makes sure that each member of the Bayside High School band is well equipped for every performance.
Advanced Technology Center - Simon Nance
An active member of the Advanced Technology Center's Advisory Council, this engineer from Stihl volunteers
by speaking regularly to high school students about their future careers. He is an invaluable resource to both students and their parents. Wow!
Bayside Middle - Isabel Main
A former teacher at Bayside Middle, now dedicated volunteer, Ms. Main understands the needs of the teachers and is ready and willing to be of service to them. Tutoring students for SOLs, she assists in preparing every child
for success.
Alanton Elementary - Pat Lowery
A "constant presence" at Alanton, Ms. Lowery is known as a “completely reliable” person and one that can always be depended on to “step up” at a moment's notice. Her “total humility and quiet dignity” make her a wonderful person to work along side.
Birdneck Elementary - Cindy Boswell
A "delightful" part of the volunteer team at Birdneck Elementary, Ms. Boswell has logged over 277 hours of service in the school library. Her activities include keeping the library organized and running smoothly! A job well done!
Arrowhead Elementary - Sherry Erickson
Working tirelessly as Student Recognition Coordinator, this consummate volunteer developed the school-wide Student of the Month Award. The Staff and PTA of Arrowhead are pleased that SHE is now getting some much deserved recognition for a job well done!
Brandon Middle - Shelli Stough
Although this consummate volunteer works hard as Membership Chair, raising funds is her expertise! Because of her dedication, the PTA will award 4 $1,000.00 scholarships! Her "limitless energy and zeal" are admired by everyone at Brandon.
Bayside Elementary - Denise Lucy
From organizing a major fundraiser, to preparing materials for a kindergarten classroom. this consummate volunteer does it all. Willing to help wherever needed, her "sweet disposition and wonderful smile" make her loved by everyone at Bayside Elementary.
Brookwood Elementary - Tina Fitzpatrick
Besides being a dedicated mother, wife, and nurse, this individual has become a very active volunteer at Brookwood. In charge of programs, she has arranged for assemblies that have not only been educational, but memorable as well.
Center for Effective Learning - Annie Cary
Serving breakfast and lunch to the students of the Center for Effective Learning since the year 2000, this volunteer has succeeded in building meaningful relationships with the children at CEL. "Miss Annie" has a special way of reaching these students.
Cooke Elementary - Sara Laine
Promoting school pride and spirit in everything she does, this committed individual's enthusiasm can be seen throughout Cooke Elementary. Logging in with over 350 hours, her smile and positive attitude are infectious to everyone she encounters.
Centerville Elementary - Laurie Sasse

a program designed to recognize children that display positive character traits throughout the month. According to everyone at Centerville Elementary, this volunteer is a “Special Me!”
Corporate Landing Elementary - Ann Mejias
"Worth her weight in gold", this dedicated volunteer has copied, collated, and folded the weekly take home readers for 2 years now! Her positive and cheerful attitude is infectious! Great job!
Central Office - Dawn Miller
For the past two years Dawn has given selflessly of her time and talents creating the beautiful murals that
decorate the Partners and Volunteer Receptions. She has spent countless hours of her own time to be sure that the events really make a splash!
Corporate Landing Middle - Lori Rybolt
Volunteering her time even before the school year begins, this enthusiastic individual stuffed first day packets for all 1500 students! Her contributions to the students and staff at Corporate Landing Middle School are endless. Congratulations!
Christopher Farms Elementary - Pat Gadzinski
In her 10th year volunteering at Christopher Farms Elementary, Ms. Pat Gadzinski has done it all! Currently serving as 1st Vice President in the PTA, she continues to be a tremendous asset to the Christopher Farms family. Wow!
Cox High - Judy Rea
Head Librarian at Cox High School, Ms. Rea has single-handedly rejuvenated the interest of the staff in the workings of the PTSA. Because of her enthusiasm as Faculty Liaison, seven faculty members now sit on

College Park Elementary - Tambrey Zang
Drawing other volunteers from her affiliation with Great Bridge Presbyterian, this dedicated individual coordinated field trips, provided school supplies, and provided Christmas gifts for many of the children at College Park. She is an" invaluable asset!
Creeds Elementary - Denise Monds
In charge of ways and means for the PTA, Ms. Monds successfully coordinated 3 fundraising campaigns this year. Serving as book fair chairperson as well, this busy volunteer's contributions have had a positive effect on each child at Creeds.
Fairfield Elementary - Loren Rossi
"This volunteer truly loves Fairfield and it shows," a fellow volunteer said of Ms. Rossi. Her outstanding ability to multi-task makes her a valuable member of the PTA at Fairfield.
Green Run High - Pandora Johnson
From the task of writing bylaws for the newly formed Booster Club, to recruiting new members and promoting the club to the community, this dedicated individual has worked hard to improve the quality of the athletic program at Green Run HS.
First Colonial High - Dr. William W. Hunter, Jr.
Possessing a strong ability to "turn kids on to math", this selfless volunteer spends countless hours tutoring students 4 days a week. His caring attitude and superior knowledge of the subject matter makes this Golden Circle Volunteer invaluable.
Hermitage Elementary - Larry Wells
The Hermitage "well never runs dry" thanks to Mr. Wells. Volunteering twice weekly as a cafeteria monitor, his gentle and quiet spirit speaks volumes to the children he encounters each day. A true gentleman!
Glenwood Elementary - Rita Shoemake
Responsible for organizing and updating the library's easy to read and fiction book collection as well as labeling all of the AR books, this volunteer has made it easier for every student to locate books on their reading level. Outstanding!
Holland Elementary - Cathy Gimm
Whether it's writing the school news-letter, organizing the PTA membership drive, or planning a luncheon for the teachers, "Ms. Gimm gives 100% of herself." Her wonderful attitude and infectious smile are treasured at Holland!
Great Neck Middle - Cathi Borchers
Credited for creating and distributing the student directory, this committed volunteer is well known for her attention to detail. A long time board member, she has made "huge contributions" to the success
of Great Neck Middle over the years.
Independence Middle - Monika Ostrowski
Whether it's helping in the classroom or assisting at the security desk, this individual believes that no task is too small. She is "one of those spectacular people who work behind the scenes to keep Independence running smoothly and safely."
Green Run Elementary - Patricia Rodriquez
Helping not only in her child's classroom, this dedicated volunteer assists each and every teacher on the grade level. By counting, sorting, and arranging of grade level materials, she has given teachers MORE time to focus on the children.
Indian Lakes Elementary - Susan Hedrick
"Rather than fitting her volunteer work around her schedule, she tailors her schedule around her volunteer work" says a first grade teacher at Indian Lakes Elementary. The organization of the teacher's luncheon makes her a star among the staff!
John B. Dey Elementary - Leslie Drehoff
This consummate volunteer contributed many hours of dedicated service to the children of John B. Dey through coordinating the Reflections Program. Her seemingly "boundless energy and sunny disposition" are an inspiration to all who come in contact with her.
Kempsville High - Richanne Sensenig
This volunteer's "can do" attitude makes her a tremendous asset at Kempsville High School. A real cheerleader for her school, Ms. Sensenig’s enthusiasm toward all she sets out to do is infectious. Go Chiefs!
Kellam High - Teresa Land
A "constant advocate for all students," Ms. Land generously gives of her time in many areas of the building. A dedicated PTA volunteer and Booster Club member, her efforts serve a common goal - the betterment of Kellam High School.
Kempsville Middle - Marlene Beyrodt
With a green thumb and a willing spirit, this enthusiastic individual coordinated the Pennies for Pansies fundraiser. Once the plants were procured, she spent countless hours planting and weeding the beds. She has made KMS a beautiful place to visit!
Kemps Landing Magnet - Sue Budorick
"Always prepared to work no matter what the task", these volunteers are devoted to all teachers at Kemps Landing Magnet. While volunteering for teachers, Ms. Budorick and Ms. Kownack work tirelessly for the good of all the school.
Kempsville Meadows Elementary - Kerry Sottung
Having cut, counted and coordinated the Campbell's Soup Labels, Box Top for Education, and Farm Fresh Receipts for the past 5 years this consistent volunteer has helped earn countless dollars for Kempsville Meadows. Her devotion is "unparalleled!"
Kemps Landing Magnet - Carole Kownack
"Always prepared to work no matter what the task", these volunteers are devoted to all teachers at Kemps Landing Magnet. While volunteering for teachers, Ms. Budorick and Ms. Kownack work tirelessly for the good of all the school.
King's Grant Elementary - Catherine Graham
As VIE Coordinator, this individual leads by example. She, like those volunteers she recruits, can be seen daily making significant contributions to KGES by making copies, stuffing take-home packets, and tutoring children. "Volunteer Extraordinaire!"
Kempsville Elementary - Michelle Luchau
A direct result of the organizational skills of this indefatigable individual, the volunteer program at Kempsville Elementary School more than doubled! Under her direction as VIE Chair, the number of volunteer hours has gone from 4,500 to 13,000!
Kingston Elementary - Lisa Conrad
Inspired by a high regard for the importance of reading, Ms. Conrad developed the Book Swap program at Kingston. Volunteering at all levels, this innovative individual has logged over 400 hours of service.
Landstown Elementary - Molly Searfoss
This "exceptional volunteer" jumps in when and wherever needed. From delivering popcorn to the perfect attendance winners to helping with the Citizen of the Month receptions, this individual is a team player.
Luxford Elementary - Jennifer Acevedo
A valuable resource to the PTA, this enthusiastic volunteer has taken on the role of mentor for the students during PE running time, at the after school running club, and at all school fitness events. She is an inspiration to all who encounter her.
Landstown High - Carole Bluestein
Currently serving as the PTSA Treasurer and All Night Grad Chairperson, this dedicated volunteer's "altruistic spirit" is evident in every facet of her work at Landstown. Besides being an exemplary volunteer, she is also the school nurse! Awesome!
Lynnhaven Elementary - Amanda Byrd
The children admire her, look up to her and listen to her. She truly cares for children and wants to see them succeed.
Landstown Middle - Rhonda Ogden
Possessing the ability to turn negatives into positives, this hard working leader has succeeded in leading the PTA at Landstown Middle School into a banner year! Leading many fundraisers herself, her enthusiasm has made her an inspiration to all!
Lynnhaven Middle - Kim Craft
As VIE Co-Chair, this volunteer's unmistakable "can do" attitude and her attention to detail has left a lasting impression on Lynnhaven Middle School. Because of her efforts in recruiting volunteers, each and every event at LMS has run smoothly.
Larkspur Middle - Michele Large
A wealth of knowledge in the copy room, this dedicated volunteer spends countless hours copying, cutting, and collating for the entire Eight Grade Staff! Personable and generous, she goes out of her way to accommodate the needs of the teachers.
Malibu Elementary - Lynda Pierce
Currently PTA President, this dedicated leader has been a "fabulous asset" to Malibu Elementary. A mother of twin fifth graders, her tireless commitment to all the children at Malibu will be missed. Inspirational!
Linkhorn Park Elementary - Kelly Monroe
This volunteer's efforts can be seen as soon as school begins and lasts far into the spring. Chair of the annual Monster Mash and Spring Silent Auction, her dedication to Linkhorn Park Elementary is unsurpassed! Way to go!
New Castle Elementary - Brenda Humes
In charge of donations, this volunteer starts hitting the pavement long before the school year begins. Her exceptional ability to bridge the gap between school and the community is commendable. Everyone benefits from her unwavering dedication.
Newtown Elementary - Sue Galloway
Mentoring female students while teaching them good running skills, this volunteer serves as " Girls On The Run" Coach. Her positive attitude translates to a positive role model for all 20 girls in the program.
Old Donation Center - Victor Gruning
This volunteer's reputation as the "go-to" person precedes him. His dedicated and reliable hand can be seen not only throughout the building but in every program and event at ODC. In the words of his daughter, “He’s just an all around nice guy!”
North Landing Elementary - Sharon Callahan
Successfully executing the daunting task of Carnival Chairperson for the third year in a row, this creative individual always commands rave reviews. "Meticulous" in her communication as treasurer, this volunteer works diligently on behalf of the PTA.
Parkway Elementary - Lori Tassone
Vice President in charge of fundraising, Ms. Tassone has a gift of developing campaigns that will benefit and support the school. A regular volunteer at many PTA events, her boundless energy seems endless!
Ocean Lakes Elementary - Ken Hackmann
Becoming an expert in reading comprehension, this dedicated great-grandfather has volunteered at the school for seven years! He found working with the children so rewarding he enlisted the help of his wife as well! Amazing!
Pembroke Elementary - Christine Batkins

Ocean Lakes High - John Risney
From designing and building a baseball cage to video taping player's batting swings in slow-motion, this baseball enthusiast volunteers countless hours to help the students of OLHS. He is most valued, however, for being a positive role model for the team.
Plaza Elementary - Michelle Books
Wearing many hats as she moves about the building, this dedicated volunteer gives a helping hand when and wherever needed. Peers say, "She is truly a one of a kind, irreplaceable volunteer!"
Plaza Middle - Karen Rothfuss
Throughout the year this volunteer has contributed her time, efforts, and creativity to the Plaza Middle School experience. As Membership Chair, she was instrumental in increasing membership over last year's numbers by over 200 members! Way to go!
Providence Elementary - Wendy Vargas
Working tirelessly to schedule, organize, and implement quality programs at Providence, this consummate volunteer rises to the occasion time and time again. As it is for her Citizen of the Month recipients, it's time for her to "sit in the spotlight."
Point O'View Elementary - Lisa Kerr
Spending much of her time assisting students in reading, Ms. Kerr spreads her love of volunteering to the library where she can be found organizing shelves and putting away books. Her cheerful disposition and positive attitude is commendable.

Salem High - Jean McCullough
As Project Grad Cookie Chair, Ms. McCullough is well on her way to realizing her goal of raising $11,000 for this event! She and her "Cookie Momsters" have come up with innovative ways to bake and sell their cookies for this worthy cause. Keep baking!
Tallwood Elementary - Cindy Kordish

Salem Middle - Kim Pollard
Known as the "Doctor of Book Repair," this volunteer uses many techniques to repair the books in the Library Media Center. Taking on the task of reviewing AR books and re-marking them for easy recognition, she makes a trip to the library a pleasant one.
Tallwood High - Deborah Bowling
President of the Band Boosters, this volunteer is known about Tallwood as the "parent advocate for the arts." In charge of fundraising and event planning, her “flair for design” makes all she sets out to do a success.
Seatack Elementary - Ethelyn LeClaire
This dedicated volunteer has worked at Seatack for enough years to see two consecutive groups of children complete their elementary years. She is a constant model of "stick- to-it-ness that is not often seen in our society." Well done!
Technical and Career Education Center - Ann McCoy
Devoting "her full attention" to the students of the Technical and Career Education Center, this volunteer's dedication to tutoring is realized when students successfully graduate from high school. She is a positive role model in many of their lives.
Shelton Park Elementary - Deborah Rainey

Thalia Elementary - Jane Gibson
A retired first grade teacher herself, this valuable volunteer knows how to meet the needs of each and every student. Assisting teachers with guided reading, she works hard to help increase student reading comprehension levels. Thank you!
Strawbridge Elementary - Denise Holden
Turning an overrun courtyard into a lush green, eco-friendly working outdoor classroom, is just one of the accomplishments of this "marvelous" volunteer. A giving person of her time and energy, this individual is truly a “go getter” with a heart of gold.
Thoroughgood Elementary - Antoinette Chang
Increasing volunteerism by 27%, this dedicated parent revitalized and expanded the Volunteer in Education program at Thoroughgood. Recruiting volunteers by tapping non-traditional resources, she far exceeded the expectations of those on the PTA board.
Three Oaks Elementary - Jackie Alwine
Credited for coordinating a "Workroom Service" for the teachers at Three Oaks, this volunteer managed and staffed a 24 hour turn around workroom for all the copying, collating, and cutting needs of the faculty. Her dedication has made their jobs easier.
Williams Elementary - Erika Congress
With bulletin boards that come to life, this faithful volunteer creates "wonders" by making six foot oak trees for the classroom to enhance student reading. Ms. Congress truly makes “magic” happen everywhere she goes!
Trantwood Elementary - Beth Rozier
From serving as President to establishing the first annual golf tournament, this busy mother of 3 gives cheerfully her time and energy to the school and the community. Her "sense of humor, style and grace" are what make her a wonderful leader.
Windsor Oaks Elementary - Mary Lester
As the sole volunteer for the Principals of American Citizenship program, this well organized individual photographs and honors children who display exemplary character traits. Reliable, friendly, and resourceful, this respected volunteer is "solid gold."
Virginia Beach Middle - Suzy Whelan
Because of her leadership skills, this volunteer has raised thousands of dollars for Beach Middle School's PTA through her work with the concession stand. As chair of the Booster Club, all students have benefited from her unwavering dedication.
Windsor Woods Elementary - Sharon Mapp
Coordinating the holiday celebration, this enthusiastic individual brought students, faculty and administration together to produce a musical extravaganza that brought everyone to tears. As hospitality chair, she spreads joy and encouragement to all.
Virginia Beach Central Academy - Lemuel Webb
A positive role model to the students at Virginia Beach Central Academy, this committed individual mentors students on positive life choices. Staff Sergeant Webb's tireless efforts are respected not only by the staff but also the students of VBCA.
