Advanced Technology Center - Lee Livingston

Lee Livingston's support of the Cisco Networking Academy has been unwavering. His leadership of this year's Senior Project brought the "real world" into the classroom through actual networking experiences. His devotion to the ATC has been outstanding!

Adult Learning Center - John Harrison

Students at the Adult Learning Center look forward to working with John Harrison, who tutors students three times a week in math. As "one of the most popular and requested tutors in the program," his contributions truly "add up" to something special!

Adult Learning Center - Ignatius Signorelli

Students at the Adult Learning Center know that volunteer Ignatius Signorelli really "speaks their language." As an English tutor in the Beginning Literacy class, Mr. Signorelli strengthens the instructional program with his reliable volunteer assistance.

Alanton Elementary - Betsy Gregory

She is Cultural Enrichment Chairman and Variety Show Chairman, but perhaps her most valuable position this school year is the job of Parent Volunteer Security Desk Coordinator. Ms. Gregory's great work ethic "helps us all to remain ahead of the curve."

Arrowhead Elementary - Jan Smith

As a greeter, a "friendly welcoming face," to all who enter the building, Mrs. Smith's support of Arrowhead's Safe School Plan is invaluable. Whether it's greeting her grandson or a visitor to the school, Mrs. Smith's warm presence is appreciated by all!

Bayside Elementary - Maggie Barger

One of the first to volunteer at any event, Ms. Barger goes above and beyond her position as VIE Coordinator. From Sock Hop to Bingo, from Family Movie Night to the SHARE program, she has touched many families at Bayside by her efforts.

Bayside High - Jayesh Kinariwala, M. D.

The ultimate professional, Dr. Jay works with never-ending support of Bayside's Health Services Academy. On his days off, this pediatrician spends hours lecturing and tutoring students about the health field. He brings medical topics to life!

Bayside Middle - Retha Girley

Ms. Girley's "enthusiasm and personal promotion of the fine arts" has been a boost to the music department at BMS. Spending over 15 hours a week baking cookies for the students to sell, Mrs. Girley's dedication can be seen and smelled throughout the hall.

Birdneck Elementary - Carmela Husted

As chair of the Reflections Program, Mrs. Husted spent enormous time and effort obtaining sponsors for prizes, preparing programs and certificates, and ensuring refreshments. Mrs. Husted always steps up to the plate to take on a challenge for Birdneck!

Brandon Middle - Michelle Landers

This year, Ms. Landers has been the eyes, the arms, the legs, and yes, the heart of our PTA. Her most noted accomplishment is the incredible job she did as the Variety Show chair for the third year. Bravo!

Brookwood Elementary - Hong Vuong

Whether volunteering in the library, classroom, or running copies, Mrs. Vuong's contributions are incredible. She is known for her ethics, professionalism, and love for children. Mrs. Vuong is a volunteer who Brookwood "can depend on no matter what."

Center for Effective Learning - Ed Langford

He's cool!, says a CEL student about CDR Langford. His development of a mentoring/tutoring program with the students in the SOL core remediation classes has benefited not only those students but the school as a whole.

Centerville Elementary - Jacquie Six

As chair of the After-school Enrichment Program, Mrs. Six organized a program that provided extra-curricular activities, such as magic and rocketry, for over one third of the student body after school, all at a cost of only three dollars per participant!

Central Office - Fran Sansone

Ms. Sansone has helped 19 schools establish "Wee Deliver" In-School Postal Services. From interviewing student applicants for postal jobs, providing mail satchels, to placing student workers, Fran has "delivered" opportunities to improve writing skills.

Christopher Farms Elementary - Sharon Mathews

Ms. Mathew's list of activities is quite impressive. Whether it is volunteering in 2 classrooms as Room Mom or tracking and organizing all Christopher Farms volunteers as VIE coordinator, her contributions are appreciated by all. A true "Super Star!"

College Park Elementary - Maria Singleton

The support and visual presence as greeter at CPES, Ms. Singleton has a truly positive effect on students. It has been said, "The greatest blessing a school can have is a dedicated, committed and caring volunteer." Maria Singleton is such a volunteer.

Cooke Elementary - Michelle Wood

It was said, "If commitment and loyalty are the most important ingredients in a good volunteer, then we certainly have a great one in Michelle Wood". The Woods family lost their home to Hurricane Isabel, but Ms. Wood's service to Cooke never wavered.

Corporate Landing Elementary - Tina Gray

With over three hundred hours of volunteer service, Mrs. Gray could easily be mistaken for a staff member! She is always available to assist the fifth grade wherever needed, and never fails to lend a helping hand.

Corporate Landing Middle - Rose Moore

Thanks to Rose Moore, Corporate Landing Middle is an inviting school to enter! Mrs. Moore volunteers as a "greeter", and provides directions and a warm hello to visitors. Her efforts free security staff to monitor the building and assist students.

Cox High - Antoinette Kahan

Innovative, creative, and tireless are words that can be used to describe Ms. Kahan's efforts for Cox High School. From organizing Cox's "Friday night Live" competitions, to arranging their "All Night Graduation Celebration", she truly gives Cox her all!

Creeds Elementary - Leslie Saunders

No one exemplifies the meaning of volunteering better than Leslie Saunders. Ms. Saunders heads several committees and still finds time to substitute. This volunteer's "unbelievable love for Creeds School" is evident every day.

Fairfield Elementary - Cindy McKenzie

Bringing a wealth of fresh ideas and programs to the Fairfield community, Ms. McKenzie's creative thinking and hard work is evident in successful events such as "Doughnuts for Dads" and Family Game Board Night. Family togetherness is her goal!

First Colonial High - Kathleen Fitzpatrick

Always working to the benefit of others, Ms. Fitzpatrick, serving as President of both the band and the orchestra boosters, led the successful merger of the band and orchestra into a single organization. Carnegie Hall, here they come!

Glenwood Elementary - Rhonda Meehan

From the PTA Board Executive Committee to the classrooms of Glenwood, Mrs. Meehan works to support the population of Glenwood Elementary. Mrs. Meehan takes the time to make Glenwood a better place for ALL children through her volunteer efforts.

Great Neck Middle - Beth Baines

A "make it happen" woman, Beth Baines single-handedly developed the AR program at GNMS. Ms Baines' unending dedication and positive attitude ensured that each child was recognized for their accomplishments.

Green Run Elementary - Doreen Bailey

Called "the reason our library is able to run an effective AR Program", Ms. Bailey serves as sole volunteer for this motivational reading program. Her talents don't stop there, as she involves herself in other ways as well. A "real asset" to the staff!

Green Run High - Bud Walter

Bud Walter may be the Assistant Basketball coach at Green Run but he is No.1 in the hearts of the students whose lives he touches. "Instrumental" in the success of their team this season, Mr. Walter is a "person of great character", and a true role model.

Hermitage Elementary - Brenda Rhodes

For the past two years, Brenda Rhodes has come to Anne Russell's second grade classroom to help students with reading. The students look forward to her patient and caring assistance, and she has truly made a difference in their lives.

Holland Elementary - James Matter

The word Matter takes on new meaning at Holland Elementary! Jim Matter volunteers every Thursday in the science lab to help out. Students know that "Matter is important in science"--but at Holland, it's Mr. Matter they're thinking about!

Independence Middle - Vi Stevens

No matter the weather, Vi Stevens never lets the Independence Middle School clinic down! Mee Maw (as she is known around school) is "an exceptional and dedicated volunteer" whose character and commitment are an inspiration to all.

Indian Lakes Elementary - Keri Wolf

Keri Wolf puts her heart and soul into everything she does at Indian Lakes. She makes volunteering a full time job-- in the Library, at the security desk, and for teachers organizing materials--she is an integral part of the Indian Lakes community!

John B. Dey Elementary - Joy Payne

A true advocate for technology, Ms. Payne uses her expertise to help reach the staff's goal of more efficient communication between school and home. Instrumental in developing the school website, and "Deyalog", this volunteer's skills are outstanding.

Kellam High - Diane Robusto

As coordinator of Kellam's "Celebrate Life" night, Mrs. Robusto makes sure that Kellam Seniors enjoy an unforgettable night of fun. Her outstanding leadership skills ensure that everyone gets involved and knows just how to make things happen!

Kemps Landing Magnet - Peggie Clark

Known to all as "Gramma", this indefatigable octogenarian is the friendly greeter at Kemps Landing Magnet School three days a week. She protects the safety of KLMS like a "lioness", and has opened her heart to all students, staff, and parents.

Kempsville Elementary - Mary Parsons

Often mistaken for an employee, Ms. Parsons spends an incredible amount of time in the media center. Her help was invaluable during a recent renovation, and her service to that department, as well as the art room, made the project go more smoothly!

Kempsville High - Margie Karp

Whether it's helping out in the guidance office, folding newsletters, running off materials, serving as an athletic booster club parent, or "just being there for the staff", Ms. Karp's willingness to help makes programs run more smoothly at KHS.

Kempsville Middle - Heidi Ullrich

I'll do it! is Ms. Ullrich's favorite phrase. She is Kempsville Middle's "Go To" volunteer for all sorts of jobs, from selling carnations to collecting canned goods. A favorite with students, Ms. Ullrich is KMS's "perfect example of a PTA volunteer"!

Kempsville Meadows Elementary - Susan Fuhs

Whether it as VIE Coordinator, website Manager, PTA Calendar producer or Ways and Means Chair, Mrs. Fuh's presence is seen daily in the halls of KMES. This dedicated volunteer's desire to make an impact is evident in all she does!

King's Grant Elementary - Rene' Pocta

From the bookstore to the Holiday Breakfast, from VIE Coordinator to the Harvest Fest, this "sterling" individual truly cares about children. She will be greatly missed, as her fourth child graduates from KGES this spring.

Kingston Elementary - Kathy O'Hara

As a Marine Biologist and Conservationalist, Mrs. O'Hara laid the framework for Kingston's Knee Deep in the Chesapeake program. Her high tide of enthusiasm is contagious, and her efforts have brought the wonders of the Chesapeake Bay to each student.

Landstown Elementary - Debbie Kuehn

Debbie is a true gem at Landstown. All teachers benefit from her cheerful, courteous and dependable manner in the workroom. Arriving promptly at 8:00am every Monday, Ms. Kuehn does what it takes to get the job done, even if it takes all day! Well done!

Landstown High - Glenda Arrington

Since it's inception, Ms. Arrington has been an invaluable asset in the success of the PTA at LHS. A busy professional mother, this enthusiastic volunteer has overseen the All Night Grad Party at LHS since it opened in 2001.

Landstown Middle - Syrome Bishop

This high school senior knows about being "in step" with the community! Syrome has devoted numerous hours to organizing the Landstown Step Team. He serves as a role model to middle school students, modeling character and integrity for others.

Larkspur Middle - Cindy Mosley

The largest turnout of Reflection Program entries since its inception, Ms. Mosley's enthusiastic efforts enticed many more children to reveal their talents. Her positive attitude helped the school reach a higher level of participation than ever before!

Linkhorn Park Elementary - Kevin Foster

Showing his kids that "a father can be just as active in their school lives as a mother", Mr. Foster rarely misses a PTA function. Aside from a two year term as President, "Mr. Bingo" runs Bingo Night, along with the annual carnival and field day.

Luxford Elementary - LaRita Williams

Always willing to extend her day to help children, Ms. Williams has offered her support to the school from the "moment she arrived." From the classroom to the cafeteria to the music department, this volunteer's helping hand is evident.

Lynnhaven Elementary - Laura Colden

Quiet as a mouse, but busy as a bee, Ms. Colden's positive and unassuming manner makes her loved by the staff and students. Whether it is tutoring students, distributing books for the literacy club or assisting a teacher, Ms. Colden makes a difference!

Lynnhaven Middle - Cindy Focke

In her 2nd year as PTA President, Ms. Focke's fearless leadership has helped LMS gain notoriety both locally and nationally. PTA membership is now the highest in middle schools, and LMS received national recognition under her direction.

Malibu Elementary - Liz Moran

Among her most notable accomplishments was the production and assembly of materials for Malibu's school wide Word Study Program. Ms. Moran tackles projects, large and small, with enthusiasm and accuracy, and loves being part of the Malibu team!

New Castle Elementary - Shirley Davis

Since New Castle opened in 1999, Shirley Davis has made a dramatic difference in the life of the school through her many contributions. According to one teacher, "Shirley epitomizes the true spirit of selfless giving that volunteerism embodies."

Newtown Road Elementary - Sandra Dee Balestrieri

As a person who progressively donates more and more of her time and support, this "permanent fixture" is willing to do whatever is needed to help students. As greeter, the children look forward to her warm, welcoming smile.

North Landing Elementary - Michele Derwent

Taking the Reflections contest a step further, Ms. Derwent organized an awards show so the children would have a venue to display their talents, believing that the large audience would encourage budding artists. She inspires creativity in students.

Ocean Lakes Elementary - Marjory Taylor

As coordinator of Atlantic Shores' volunteers, Mrs. Taylor has garnered 17 volunteers for Ocean Lakes Elementary. As a classroom volunteer herself, Mrs. Taylor is like a grandmother to her students, encouraging them to go above and beyond in school!

Ocean Lakes High - Carolyn Thompson

Successfully coordinating the "Big Chill" for 10 years, Ms. Thompson single-handedly ran this "high school re-experience" day for parents. As an active PTA/faculty-member, Ms. Thompson's happy disposition makes her loved by students and staff alike.

Old Donation Center - Kathy Fry

Ms. Fry makes it a personal goal to be sure that the teachers and staff are content and "less overwhelmed" by establishing bi-weekly volunteer workday teams who stand ready to assist staff in any way. Kudos to this enduring partnership!

Open Campus High - Benji Lineberry

Actively involved in all extra curricular activities at Open Campus, "Benjie's" dedication to favorite events such as the end of the year cookout make him a favorite among the students. Everyone is grateful for his contributions.

Parkway Elementary - Jeanette Tarkington

With the understanding that success begins with the ability to read, Ms. Tarkington spends many hours with the reading teacher organizing materials, sorting and labeling files and perhaps most importantly, listening to children read. Well done!

Pembroke Elementary - Lisa Jaggers

Just because her son graduated from Pembroke doesn't mean she has to! Ms. Jaggers continues to show her support by being VIE Coordinator for the school. The is a great example of how home-school partnerships can benefit students.

Pembroke Meadows Elementary - Donna Hilley

There isn't a thing Mrs. Hilley WON'T do for Pembroke Meadows! From tutoring, to the Santa Breakfast, the Bunny Breakfast and PTA Fun Run-- not to mention ALL the PTA's fundraisers--Mrs. Hilley makes it happen at Pembroke Meadows!

Plaza Elementary - Christie Brokaw

Considered a staff member at Plaza, Ms. Brokaw arrives early and stays late, doing whatever needs to be done. When asked how she can manage it all, she replied "I don't know, but it is for the children of Plaza and I don't want them to be disappointed."

Plaza Middle - Betty Ann Lancaster

As both PTA President and now Treasurer, Ms. Lancaster's dedication is unsurpassed. She eagerly recruits and fosters new volunteers and community resources that benefit everyone at PMS. It has been said, "one does not easily say 'NO' to Betty Ann!"

Point O'View Elementary - Margaret Swearingen

Ms. Swearingen's "just tell me what to do" spirit has made her an integral part of the PTA. Not a minute late, this lady enters the building at 7:45am to set up the school bookstore. She spends the rest of the day asking "What can I do to help?"

Princess Anne Elementary - Sandy Spencer

Called "a breath of fresh air", Spirit Item Coordinator Ms. Spencer focuses on the children and their needs, what they like and how they think. Conscientious and professional, this volunteer is a true believer that "no job is too big or too small."

Princess Anne High - George Sauer

A fixture at PAHS, Mr. Sauer has logged over 752 recorded hours! The creative influence and driving force behind PAHS's last 3 major musical productions, Mr. Sauer's expertise was instrumental in guiding PAHS to the State Thespian Conference.

Princess Anne Middle - Terry Matalon

A priceless gift, Mrs. Matalon successfully ran an extensive volunteer program at PAMS. Upbeat and supportive, she never fails to find a multitude of volunteers for any event, largely due to her ability to make others feel "affirmed and appreciated."

Providence Elementary - Nicole Bright

Not just a volunteer, "a blessing," Ms. Bright's quiet enthusiasm and dedication causes her to stand out among all volunteers. With over 830 hours of her personal time logged in, she serves as a "quiet workhorse" at Providence.

Red Mill Elementary - Lauri Hudson

An active presence at every PTA sponsored event, Ms. Hudson's tireless efforts, great sense of humor, and strong leadership serve as positive motivators for all those around her. Ms. Hudson has made a difference in the lives of all our students.

Rosemont Elementary - Denise Hall

In her ten years volunteering at Rosemont, Mrs. Hall has served in many capacities. Among her most notable accomplishments, however, was the fourteen thousand dollars in books and materials she raised for the school through chairing Rosemont's book fairs.

Rosemont Forest Elementary - Daphane Mifflin

Along with the Guidance Dept., Mrs. Mifflin implemented "Kelso's Choice," a program that teaches children their options in the face of conflict. She used her talents to further this program by painting "Kelso's Wheel," at the school for all to use.

Salem Elementary - Chris Kroetsch

With a smile and laugh that is infectious, Ms. Kroetsch makes all who enter the building to volunteer feel welcomed and appreciated. Her love for children is only surpassed by her dedication to the school. Hats off to Chris!

Salem High - Ginger Scherck

If there's a job to be done at Salem High, Ginger Scherck is there to do it! She is often at school five nights a week, during the day, and even weekends! From the Booster Club to the library, Ms. Scherck participates with professionalism and a smile.

Salem Middle - Renee Hudson

Described as a "rare valuable gem," Ms. Hudson has been instrumental in bridging the gap between staff and PTA. Her commitment to the staff through her work in the "Riso" room has allowed teachers to spend more instructional time with their students.

Seatack Elementary - Jim King

As a volunteer who has expertise working with computers, Mr. King has made a tremendous contribution to Seatack Elementary. From technical tasks, to instructional jobs, to clerical work such as labeling and inventorying software, Mr. King does it all!

Shelton Park Elementary - Doris Hartzog

Those dreaded bubbles! This gracious volunteer single-handedly and cheerfully bubbled in the quarterly tests sheets for each student of every teacher! That's a lot of bubbling! Her "can do" attitude finds her doing tasks that others shy away from.

Strawbridge Elementary - Lisa Sikes

The success of the school store is due largely to the efforts of this dependable worker. Her contributions of time and energy to the library, the copy room, and in the classroom is appreciated by all at Strawbridge. She is truly a "special gift".

Tallwood Elementary - Shane Walker

With a "deep abiding commitment to young people," Mr. Walker gives countless hours of service to improve the quality of life at Tallwood. Whether it's setting up for Family Bingo Night or donning a Santa suit, this volunteer's commitment is exemplary.

Tallwood High - Gary Stubbs

A committed volunteer for the past 7 years, Mr. Stubbs doesn't "mind kicking the ball and doing whatever it takes to keep it rolling." President of both the band and booster clubs, this devoted volunteer represents Tallwood at the highest level.

Technical & Career Education Center - John Keeler

Mr. Keeler has been a tremendous asset to the Outdoor Power Equipment program at the Tech Center. Through his work at Stihl, he has provided tours, instruction on the industry, and equipment with which to train. His energy has given this program power!

Thalia Elementary - Bridgett Seute

A "quiet force behind the scenes," Mrs. Seute has gained the respect and trust of everyone in the building. Taking great pride in her school, this volunteer published an outstanding monthly newsletter, and is now working on the PTA website.

Thoroughgood Elementary - Georgia Hamilton & Beth Robinson

Together "[Georgia Hamilton & Beth Robinson] have moved mountains and made continents of progress" in Thoroughgood's Social Studies lab. Believing that learning is best achieved through hands-on labs, these two have truly opened the world to Thoroughgood students.

Trantwood Elementary - Susan O'Connell

Ms. O'Connell's heartprint is evident in countless areas. Her creative forces developed the Hands On Science program, the Annual Art Show, and the Celebrating Differences program just to mention a few. Her contributions are appreciated by all!

Virginia Beach Central Academy - Bonnie Brown

Bonnie Brown is a member of the School Planning Council. She has volunteered for years at other schools and is eager to help out in anyway she can. Her involvement at the academy will hopefully encourage others to volunteer their time.

Virginia Beach Middle - Glenda O'Pry

Often mistaken for a teacher, Mrs. O'Pry spends countless hours at Virginia Beach Middle. Always willing to "take the ball and run with it", she does her work professionally and with attention to detail--and accomplishes great things in the process!

White Oaks Elementary - Thomas Malone, Sr.

Not always the least stressful place to be, Mr. Malone's calming supervision of the lunchroom is accomplished in a pleasant and caring manner. He even finds time to help out in his son's class and remain active in the PTA.

Williams Elementary - Teresa Ludwick

Ms. Ludwick can always be counted on to assist families at Bettie F. Williams. Whether passing out popcorn at evening events or creating wonderful food baskets during the holidays for families in need, Ms. Ludwick always goes above and beyond to help.

Windsor Oaks Elementary - Erica Briest

With five children of her own, Ms. Briest still finds time to give tirelessly to many PTA activities. Her "sunny attitude" is best seen in the Library Media Center where she spends hours shelving books, copying materials, and distributing new inventory.

Windsor Woods Elementary - Patrick Martin

Retirement from the military brought a more active role in the lives of his children for this volunteer. Helping out 4 days a week in the library customizing spreadsheets and designing templates, Mr. Martin's technical skills have been " put to work!"

Woodstock Elementary - Carole McCullough

As a daily presence at Woodstock, Mrs. McCullough has provided over 200 hours of volunteer service just this year. With more energy than "The Energizer Bunny", she gives tirelessly of her time, efforts and talents in her many roles!
