The Department of Technology (DOT) developed a division-wide technology plan that documents the school division's vision for the future and provides a roadmap for achieving that vision. The VBCPS Technology Strategic Plan addresses division-wide technology issues and is updated as required to ensure continued alignment with School Board priorities; state and federal mandates; stakeholder expectations; and the ever-changing technology landscape. In developing and updating this plan, DOT utilizes several strategies to assess the technology needs of the division including customer satisfaction surveys, face-to-face interviews with departmental leaders and representatives; and principal and community member focus groups.

In May of 2003, the Virginia Department of Education adopted a six-year educational technology plan for Virginia (http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/Technology/plan2003-09.pdf) . Per the state’s expectations for all school divisions, our local technology strategic plan is developed in a manner ensuring consistency with the objectives found in the statewide educational technology plan.
