Superintendent's Report to the School Board - September 5, 2012

Chairman Edwards, Vice Chairman Brunke, members of the School Board, and the viewing public -

As you know, our schools welcomed back approximately 69,000 students yesterday. As you might imagine, it can be a challenge to transport, greet, feed, and of course, teach that many children on the first day of school. Their young minds are still on summer vacation while we are ready to get back to work!

That being said, I must tell you that our opening day went extremely well. Teachers, parents, principals, and even my own Cabinet members who visited schools report back that all signs point to a very successful school year.

I could go on and on, describing the many positive moments that took place yesterday. But, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. So, take a look:

Great pictures! There are hundreds more that I could have included, but those paint a pretty good picture of the excitement that comes with a new school year. In closing, I’d like to say to our students, “welcome back”; to staff, “I have every confidence in you”; and to the many parents who are happy to see their little ones get back on the school bus - “you’re welcome!” Here’s to a great school year!

Mr. Chairman, this concludes my report for this evening.
