Summer School Application for Teachers PDF Document

  1. Current employees, approved substitutes, and persons not employed by the school system should complete the 2008 Summer School Application for Teachers and return it to Human Resources, Attention: Summer School Office. Staffing selection is now underway; the sooner the application is received, the sooner the applicant can be considered for remaining positions.
  2. Applicants may view our listing of summer school applications that we have received and entered into the list of eligible candidates. If you would like to be notified when the list of received applications is posted, please subscribe here.
  3. Selection of summer staff will begin mid-March, 2008, and will continue through the spring until all vacant positions are filled, normally about one week prior to the start of summer school (June 20, 2008). Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit complete applications by February 22, 2008 to maximize opportunity for selection to preferred positions/assignments/locations. However, applications will be accepted through the spring and early summer until all vacancies are filled.
  4. At the time an applicant is selected for summer employment he/she will be sent a contract offer. Each position is considered "open/vacant" until an accepted/signed contract has been returned for that position to the Human Resources Office.
  5. Upon acceptance of a summer school job application, the Human Resources Staff will add the applicant's name, qualifications, and credentials to a list of eligible candidates that is updated and published periodically during the staffing season to the summer school principals for their review and consideration. The summer school principals then make hiring recommendations to the Summer School Staffing office for vacancies in their buildings.
  6. All contract offers are subject to sufficient student enrollment.
  7. As staffing progresses during the spring, updated listings of summer positions yet unfilled will be posted on this site. If you would like to be notified when the list of remaining/unfilled summer school positions is posted, please subscribe here. Applicants may wish to review the Web site periodically from April through early June to determine if their preferred positions remain vacant.
  8. Any person not currently employed by the school system must meet all pre-employment requirements including background checks and Tuberculin Test certification.
  9. A copy of a valid teaching license with endorsements must accompany all non-VBCPS employee’s application for teachers. License copies must be submitted directly to the summer school office, regardless of previous copies that may have been submitted for "regular" school year employment. Applications submitted without appropriate, complete licensure will not be processed nor accepted until the proper licensure is received.
