Each year, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America presents the Team Academic Achievement Award for exemplary performance by student athletes in the classroom. To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.25 for the entire school year. The team G-P-A is determined by adding every player's G-P-A then dividing by the number of players. The 2012-13 girls’ soccer team at Ocean Lakes High School had an average G-P-A of 3.90.

This is the ninth consecutive year that the girls’ soccer team from Ocean Lakes has earned this prestigious honor.

Please join me in congratulating these outstanding young women for their accomplishments in the classroom and on the field!

Mr. Chairman, as a final note – the N-S-C-A-A honored 388 high school soccer teams from across the country for academic excellence during the 2012-13 school year. I am proud to say that three more of our schools also earned the award. Teams from First Colonial, Kellam and Cox high schools will be honored at school board meetings next month.

Mr. Chairman, this concludes our scheduled recognitions for this evening.
