3A. Virginia Society for Technology in Education 2012 Teacher of the Year

The School Board is pleased to recognize Norene Skiles, library media specialist at Windsor Oaks Elementary School, for being named the 2012 Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the Virginia Society for Technology in Education (V-S-T-E).

V-S-T-Es mission is to promote excellence in education through professional development which supports the integration of existing and emerging technologies. Through in-house and divisionwide professional development offerings, Mrs. Skiles works with teachers and staff members to help them become more comfortable with instructional technology tools and resources. In addition, her lessons are often used as models for other library media specialists across the division.

Mrs. Skiles is a 26 year veteran teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Science in elementary education and a library science endorsement. She has been honored as the Windsor Oaks Teacher of the Year and has also earned National Board Certification.

Mrs. Skiles makes the school a better place by constantly sharing her technology expertise. In a nomination letter, one of her colleagues wrote: Mrs. Skiles is the epitome of the 21st century school librarian! Her knack to seamlessly integrate technology in her program affords every Windsor Oaks student the opportunity to use the newest technology at school even if they cant afford it at home.

Congratulations, Ms. Skiles. We are fortunate that you have chosen to serve the students of VBCPS.

That concludes the scheduled recognitions for this evening, Mr. Chairman.
