7C. Certified Green School Division – Platinum Level

The School Board is pleased to recognize the Office of Facilities Planning and Construction for being recognized as a Platinum Level Certified Green School Division by the Virginia School Board Association.

The Virginia School Board Association’s Green Schools Challenge is a statewide competition designed to encourage implementation of specific environmental policies and practical actions that reduce the carbon emissions generated by both the local school division and the broader community. School divisions were evaluated in 12 categories, ranging from “cooperation between school division and local government” to “student involvement.” Virginia Beach City Public Schools scored 180 points out of 200 in order to receive the Platinum Level award.

Tim Cole will receive the award on behalf of the members of the Sustainable Schools Committee (many of whom are in the audience tonight) as well as the 148 Sustainable School Liaisons. All of their efforts have been instrumental in helping to move the school division, as well as the local community, towards a sustainable future.
