6. Student, Employee, and Public Awards and Recognition

6A. National Association of Telecommunications Officers & Advisors Award

The School Board is pleased to recognize the staff from VBTV for being awarded the 2007 Government Programming Award from the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors.

Congratulations to the staff of VBTV, in particular producers Jeff Barba and Stan Wadowski. VBTV's original production How in the World recently won second place in the Child/Young Adult category in a national contest of government programming.

The National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) presented awards in 63 categories after receiving more than 1,200 contest entries from across the United States and Canada. How in the World takes students on a journey aboard the Airship Curiosity to explore the answers to questions such as: How does a boat float? How can a musical note shatter glass? Why does a golf ball have dimples? What in the world is the Magna Carta? Each topic and feature are specifically chosen and produced to align with objectives of the Virginia Standards of Learning. Principles of science and history come to life through creative storytelling and suggested hands-on activities which can be completed either in class or at home. The program integrates a vocabulary lesson into all topics, selecting a word embedded within the lesson which may not be familiar to all students.
Here to accept the award tonight is producer Jeff Barba and How in the World host Lindy Fay.

Please join me in congratulating the staff from VBTV!
