7. Student, Employee, and Public Awards and Recognition
7A. Outstanding Economics Lesson Plan Award Recipient
The School Board is pleased to recognize Matthew Wallace, First Colonial High School, for his recent award from the Virginia Council for Economic Education.
Matthew Wallace, a Government and History teacher at First Colonial, was awarded first place in the council's Outstanding Economics Lesson Plan competition. The Council annually recognizes and rewards teachers who demonstrate outstanding creativity and commitment to economics education. Mr. Wallace's lesson plan was entitled "Monetary Policy: Increasing/Decreasing the Money Supply." He will receive a $500 cash award along with his first place distinction this fall at the Federal Reserve in Richmond. Please join me in congratulating Mr. Wallace for this extraordinary accomplishment!
7B. Bronze & Silver Congressional Award Recipient
The School Board is also pleased to recognize Amanda O., a senior at Cox High School, for being awarded the Bronze and Silver Congressional Award Medals. This is highest honor bestowed upon America's youth. Congresswoman Thelma Drake recently presented the medals to Amanda.
To earn the award, young people must set and achieve goals in the four program areas: voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness, and expedition/exploration.
Amanda was honored for volunteering with her school, babysitting in the community, organizing a weekend camping trip to Maine to fill her expedition requirement, and maintaining a regular fitness routine.
Congresswoman Thelma Drake said, "I am proud of the many contributions Amanda has made to her community… These medals are a testament to Amanda's commitment to the values of public service, personal growth, initiative, and achievement, all of which are cornerstones of the Congressional Award."
Please join me in congratulating Amanda for this outstanding accomplishment!
Mr. Chairman, that concludes our scheduled recognitions for this evening.
