6. Student, Employee, and Public Awards and Recognition
6A. 2007 VHSL Girls' State Outdoor Track & Field Champions
The School Board is now pleased to recognize the 2007 VHSL Girls' State Outdoor Track & Field Champions.
The Landstown High School Girls Track Team took state champion honors at the VHSL State Outdoor Track and Field Championships held on June 2, 2007 at Todd Stadium, Newport News. Team members include Seniors Ciara F., Kelnesha H., Cierra M., and Junior Marlena W.
The team won a first place medal in the 4x400 relay, with a time of
3 minutes 48.35 seconds. The team is coached by Marcus Adams, Dave Coulter and Tom Anderson.

6B. 2007 Wachovia Cup
The School Board is pleased to recognize Frank W. Cox High School for receiving the 2007 VHSL Wachovia Cup award.
Frank W. Cox High School stands atop all others in VHSL athletic success for the 2007 school year, winning the coveted Wachovia Cup for Group AAA for the ninth time. It was the first AAA Cup winner in 1990 and has earned subsequent Cups in 1993, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2004 and 2006. Cups are presented for athletic and academic activities to the top school in each of the League's enrollment groups. The winner of the Wachovia Cup is determined by a point system based on performance in state championship events. Cox athletes reached the finals in eight Group AAA sports, scoring a total of 377.50 points. The Falcons won state championships in golf, boys' volleyball and field hockey; finished second in girls soccer, and also picked up points in boys soccer, girls tennis, girls volleyball and wrestling and for Wachovia Sportsmanship. Accepting on behalf of Cox High School are Dr. Brian Matney, Principal, Jim Long, Student Activities Coordinator, Bruce Stewart, Boys Volleyball Coach (2006), Amanda O., SCA President, and Latralle W., SCA Vice-President. 6 C. Outstanding Attendances – September 2007
The School Board is pleased to recognize the schools with the highest rates of student attendance for the month of September 2007. Representatives from these schools are invited to come forward as their school's name is announced.
College Park Elementary, with an attendance rate of 98.69% is the recipient of the elementary school attendance certificate for September. Accepting College Park's attendance certificate is Principal Liz Warren, Assistant Principal Lori Hasher and Attendance Committee Chairperson Dawn Brewer. Congratulations to students and staff at College Park Elementary!
Kemps Landing Magnet School, with an attendance rate of 99.25%, receives the attendance certificate for middle schools for September. Accepting Kemps Landing Magnet's certificate is Principal Randi Riesbeck and the following 8th graders who have had perfect attendance throughout middle school:
Rowan C., Marc D., Kashfia E., John K., Alessandra O., Michael S., and Ashley S.
Congratulations to the students and staff at Kemps Landing Magnet School for their outstanding student attendance in September!
At the high school level, the attendance certificate for September 2007 goes to Tallwood High School who reported a 98.08% student attendance rate. Accepting the school's certificate is Patrick Wroton, Assistant Principal in charge of attendance, Aaron A., SCA President, and Cornell Fuller, PTSA President.
Congratulations to Tallwood High students and staff!
