6. Student, Employee, and Public Awards and Recognition
6A. Meritorious Budget Award from the Association of School Business Officials International
The School Board is pleased to recognize the Department of Budget and Finance for receiving the Meritorious Budget Award from the Association of School Business Officials International, known as ASB, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006.
The Meritorious Budget Awards Program was designed by ASBO International and school business management professionals to enable school business administration to achieve excellence in budget presentation. The program helps school systems build a solid foundation in the skills of developing, analyzing, and presenting a budget.
The Meritorious Budget Award is only conferred to school systems that have met or exceeded the Meritorious Budget Award Program Criteria. No other organization or award program is specifically designed to enhance school budgeting and honor a school system for a job well done. Accepting the award on behalf of the Department is Farrell Hanzaker, Chief Financial Officer. We ask that Mr. Hanzaker remain at the dais for the next presentation.
6B. GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
The School Board is also pleased to recognize the Department of Budget and Finance for receiving the Distinguished Budget Award from the Government Finance Officers Association for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006.
The Government Finance Officer's Association's (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program, established in 1984, recognizes exemplary budget document by state, provincial and local governments, as well as public universities and colleges. Entities participating in the program submit copies of their operating budgets for review. Each budget document is evaluated using a comprehensive evaluation checklist and those judged proficient receive the award. Obviously Virginia Beach City Public Schools met this stringent criteria. Mr. Hanzaker will also accept this award on behalf of his department.
Please join me in congratulating the Department of Budget and Finance.
Mr. Chairman, this concludes our recognitions for the evening.
