6. Student, Employee, and Public Awards and Recognition
6A. 2008 VHSL State Championship Girls' Indoor Track Team
The School Board is now pleased to recognize the members of the Landstown High School Girls Indoor Track team as the 2008 VHSL State Champions.
The members of the talented team include:

The Landstown High School Girls Indoor Track team took home state titles at the Virginia High School League State Championship which was held on February 29 – March 1 at George Mason University. This is the first time a girl's indoor track team from Virginia Beach has won the VHSL state championship.
In addition, the team took home state titles in four events. First place awards went to the 4x200 meter relay team of Kelnisha, Cierra, Olivia, and Leah; the 4x400 meter relay team of Kelnisha, Cierra, Marlena and Taylor; and Marlena Wesh, who won individual titles in the 55 meter dash and the 300 meter dash.
Also, at the 2008 Nike Indoor Track National Meeting, held on March 15 and 16 at Landover, Maryland, the team of Cierra, Kelnesha, Olivia and Marlena won the national title in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:40.08. Marlena also took home the national title in the 200 meter run with a time of 24.46. The 4x400 meter relay team of Marlena, Cierra, Kelnisha and Taylor finished in second place with a time of 3:46.91.

6B. Outstanding Attendance – March, 2008
The School Board is pleased to recognize the schools with the highest rates of student attendance for the month of March, 2008. Representatives from these schools are invited to come forward as their school's name is announced.
Kingston Elementary School, with an attendance rate of 97.20% is the recipient of the elementary school attendance certificate for March. Accepting Kingston's attendance certificate is Principal Dr. Nancy Davenport. Congratulations to students and staff at Kingston Elementary School.
Kemps Landing Magnet School, with an attendance rate of 97.63%, receives the attendance certificate for middle schools for March. Accepting the certificate for Kemps Landing Magnet is Principal Randi Riesbeck. Congratulations to the students and staff at Kemps Landing Magnet School for their outstanding student attendance in March.
At the high school level, outstanding attendance for March goes to Landstown High School, with a 95.62% student attendance rate. Landstown also had the most improved attendance for high schools at 2.24%. Accepting Landstown's certificates are Principal Brian Baxter. Congratulations to Landstown High School students and staff.
6C. Most Improved Attendance – March 2008
The School Board will now recognize the schools with the most improved attendance for the month of March 2008.
On the elementary school level, Creeds Elementary School posted the greatest increase in attendance for March with an improvement rate of 2.03%. Accepting Creeds Elementary School's attendance certificate is Principal Robin Davenport. Congratulations to students and staff at Creeds Elementary School.
At the middle school level, Lynnhaven Middle School showed the greatest improvement in student attendance – up 1.85 percent in March. Accepting Lynnhaven Middle School's attendance certificate is Assistant Principal Camille Harmon. Congratulations to students and staff at Lynnhaven Middle School.
