6A. Virginia State Champions – Simulated Congressional Hearing
The School Board will now recognize Kemps Landing Magnet School's 8th Grade Team Madison as the Virginia State champions of the inaugural middle school Simulated Congressional Hearing Competition sponsored by The Center for Civic Education.

6B. Virginia Science Bowl State Champions
The School Board is also pleased to recognize Kemps Landing Magnet School as the Virginia Science Bowl State Champions.
8th Grade students Kristina D, Darrin W, Victoria J, and Team Captain Campbell S. competed in The Virginia Science Bowl competition in the following categories; physical science, life science, earth science, general science, mathematics and computer. The KLMS team was undefeated throughout the entire competition and won $500 for the school's Science Department, a trophy, and a banner. Each student also won an all-expense paid trip to the national competition which will be held in Golden, Colorado in June.
The team is coached by Stephen Carozza, Earth Science teacher.

6C. Outstanding Attendance – February, 2008
The School Board is pleased to recognize the schools with the highest rates of student attendance for the month of February, 2008. Representatives from these schools are invited to come forward as their school's name is announced.
New Castle Elementary School, with an attendance rate of 96.94% is the recipient of the elementary school attendance certificate for February. Accepting New Castle's attendance certificate is Assistant Principal Tonilee Oliverio and Kelvin S, a fifth grader with perfect attendance for the year.

Kemps Landing Magnet School, with an attendance rate of 97.12%, receives the attendance certificate for middle schools for February. Kemps Landing is also receiving the Most Improved Attendance Certificate for February, with an improvement percentage of 0.07%. Accepting the certificates for Kemps Landing Magnet are Principal Randi Riesbeck and 8th grade student Campbell S.
Congratulations to the students and staff at Kemps Landing Magnet School for their outstanding student attendance AND most improved attendance in February!
At the high school level, outstanding attendance for February goes to Tallwood High School, with a 94.57% student attendance rate. Accepting Tallwood's certificate is: Aaron A, SCA President, and Sheridan F, SCA Vice-President.
Congratulations to Tallwood High School students and staff!
6D. Most Improved Attendance – February 2008
The School Board will now recognize the schools with the most improved attendance for the month of February 2008.
Kemps Landing Magnet School has already received their certificate, and on the elementary school level, Lynnhaven Elementary School posted the greatest increase in attendance for February with an improvement rate of 1.05 percent. Accepting Lynnhaven Elementary School's attendance certificate is Principal Katherine Everett, PTA President Amanda B. , and SCA President Noah S.
