6. Student, Employee, and Public Awards and Recognition

6B. Outstanding Attendance – January, 2008
The School Board is pleased to recognize the schools with the highest rates of student attendance for the month of January, 2008. Representatives from these schools are invited to come forward as their school’s name is announced.

Salem Elementary School, with an attendance rate of 97.09% is the recipient of the elementary school attendance certificate for January. Accepting Salem’s attendance certificate is Principal Joe Badali and Attendance Office Associate, Nancy Martin.
Congratulations to students and staff at Salem Elementary School!

Kemps Landing Magnet School, with an attendance rate of 97.06%, receives the middle school attendance certificate for January. Accepting the certificate for Kemps Landing Magnet is Mrs. DeLena Poe, Chorus Director, and three of her very talented vocal students:
Nicole R.; Joseph A.; Jacob S.

Congratulations to the students and staff at Kemps Landing Magnet School for their outstanding student attendance in January!

At the high school level, outstanding attendance for January goes to First Colonial High School, with a 96.57% student attendance rate. Accepting First Colonial’s certificate is Principal Dale Holt.

6C. Most Improved Attendance – January 2008
The School Board will now recognize the schools with the most improved attendance for the month of January 2008.

Providence Elementary School posted the greatest increase in attendance for January with an improvement rate of 1.53 percent. Accepting Providence Elementary School’s attendance certificate is Attendance Office Associate Nita Bond & SCA President Hunter S. Congratulations to students and staff at Providence Elementary School!

At the middle school level, Virginia Beach Middle School showed the greatest improvement in student attendance—up 1.21 percent in January.  Accepting Virginia Beach Middle School’s attendance certificate is Principal Rita Simpson. Congratulations to students and staff at Virginia Beach Middle School!

Open Campus had the most improved attendance at the high school level with an improvement rate of 2.44 percent.  Accepting Open Campus’ certificate is Interim Principal Josh Darden. Congratulations to Open Campus!
