The School Board is pleased to recognize Lisa Hannah, Principal at Three Oaks Elementary School, for receiving the James D. Mullins Leadership Award given by the Virginia State Reading Association. Having received this award, she is now known as Virginia’s Reading Administrator of the Year. The award was established in 1994 to recognize administrators who show exceptional support for reading. Criteria for the award include;

- Showing a strong support for reading and reading programs.
Ms. Hannah was nominated for the award by several members of her staff at Three Oaks. She has been an employee with the Virginia Beach City Public Schools for nineteen years and is currently President of the Virginia Beach Principal’s League. Her contributions in support of reading are many, and include; Literacy nights to promote reading and writing strategies, a “Read to the Principal” program, in-house workshops, programs such as WatchDOGS (which stands for Dads of Great Students), Celebrate Learning featuring student authors, and “Brag Tag” rewards for student reading. Ms. Hannah received the award at the local level and traveled to Roanoke to accept the statewide award on March 16th. Please join me in congratulating Lisa Hannah for receiving the James D.
