5. Student, Employee, and Public Awards and Recognitions
5.A. 2006 Virtual Enterprise State Team Champions
The School Board is pleased to recognize students from Cox and First Colonial High Schools as state winners in the 2007 Virtual Enterprise Business Plan State Competition.
These two teams &ndash Sac-Shack from Cox High School and Glowbal Electronics Company from First Colonial High School &ndash will represent Virginia in the National Business Plan Competition in New York City in March. These students have won the regional and state competitions and will now advance to the national competition representing Virginia. The three winning teams at the National Business Plan Competition will share a $25,000 award that is funded by Merrill Lynch, sponsor of the competition.

5.B. Outstanding Attendance – January 2007
The School Board is pleased to recognize the schools with the highest rates of student attendance for the month of January 2007. Representatives from these schools are invited to come forward as their school's name is announced.
Old Donation Center, with an attendance rate of 97.41 percent is the recipient of the elementary school attendance certificate for January. Accepting Old Donation Center's attendance certificate is Assistant Principal Constance James. Congratulations to students and staff at Old Donation Center!
Kemps Landing Magnet School, with an attendance rate of 98.12 percent, receives the attendance certificate for middle schools for January. Accepting the certificate for Kemps Landing Magnet is Assistant Principal Charles Foster. Congratulations to the students and staff at Kemps Landing Magnet School for their outstanding student attendance in January!

At the high school level, the outstanding attendance certificate for January 2007 goes to Ocean Lakes High School which reported a 97.17 percent student attendance rate. Representing Ocean Lakes tonight are Principal Cheryl C. Askew. Congratulations to Ocean Lakes High School students and staff!
5.C. Most Improved Attendances – January 2007
The School Board will now recognize the schools with the most improved attendance for the month of January 2007.
Kingston Elementary School posted the greatest increase in attendance for January with an improvement rate of 2.35 percent. Accepting Kingston Elementary School's attendance certificate is Principal Dr. Nancy Davenport. Congratulations to students and staff at Kingston Elementary School!
At the middle school level, Center for Effective Learning showed the greatest improvement in student attendance—up 2.54 percent in January. Accepting Center for Effective Learning's attendance certificate is Principal John Parkman. Congratulations to students and staff at Center for Effective Learning!
Virginia Beach Central Academy had the most improved attendance at the high school level with an improvement rate of 2.98 percent for student attendance. Accepting Virginia Beach Central Academy's certificate is Principal Michael Bolton. Congratulations to Virginia Beach Central Academy!
