6. Student, Employee, and Public Awards and Recognitions
6A. 2006-2007 National Year Round School of Merit Award
The School Board is now pleased to recognize representatives from Point O'View Elementary School. Point O'View is the recipient of the 2006-2007 National Year Round School of Merit Award by the National Association of Year Round Education.
This honor was awarded to only two year-round elementary schools in the United States this year and is based upon commitment to improving the educational experience through the use of a balanced calendar and reducing summer learning loss. Schools earning this award serve as national role models for other schools seeking academic excellence through time and learning.
Present this evening to accept recognition for this award are: Assistant Principal Pam Pastros along with the Year Round School Coordinators Leslie Quinlan, Anita Duke, and Laurel Anderson. Please join me in congratulating Point O'View Elementary School!
5D. Outstanding Attendance – December 2006
The School Board is pleased to recognize the schools with the highest rates of student attendance for the month of December 2006. Representatives from these schools are invited to come forward as their school's name is announced.
Point O'View Elementary School, with an attendance rate of 96.81 percent is the recipient of the elementary school attendance flag for December. Accepting Point O'View Elementary's attendance certificate are: Assistant Principal Pam Pastros, SCA President Jenna M., and SCA Sponsors Brenda Bacle, and Patty Weaver. Congratulations to students and staff at Point O'View Elementary!
Kemps Landing Magnet School, with an attendance rate of 97.76 percent, receives the attendance certificate for middle schools for December. Accepting the certificate for Kemps Landing Magnet are: Kelly Dausel, 7th Grade Teacher and Debate Coach with members of the Kemps Landing Magnet School Citywide Champion Affirmative Team: 8th Grader Keyona A., 7th Grader Campbell S., and 6th Grader Olivia H. Congratulations to the students and staff at Kemps Landing Magnet School for their outstanding student attendance in December!
At the high school level, the outstanding attendance certificate for December 2006 goes to Ocean Lakes High School which reported a 95.77 percent student attendance rate. Representing Ocean Lakes tonight are Assistant Principal Norman Benwitz and Huston M., a senior who has had perfect attendance for his entire high school career. Congratulations to Ocean Lakes High School students and staff!
6C. Most Improved Attendance – December 2006
The School Board will now recognize the schools with the most improved attendance for the month of December 2006.
Creeds Elementary School posted the greatest increase in attendance for December with an improvement rate of 1.57 percent. Accepting Creeds Elementary School's attendance certificate is Principal Robin Davenport and Student Dallas B. Congratulations to students and staff at Creeds Elementary School!
At the middle school level, Kempsville Middle School showed the greatest improvement in student attendance –up 0.34 percent in December. Accepting Kempsville Middle School's attendance certificate is Principal James Smith. Congratulations to students and staff at Kempsville Middle School!
Green Run High School had the most improved attendance at the high school level with an improvement rate of 0.18 percent for student attendance. Accepting Green Run High School's certificate is Principal George Parker. Congratulations to Green Run High School!
