5. Student, Employee, and Public Awards and Recognitions
5A. Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association
The School Board is pleased to recognize the Department of Budget and Finance for being awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association. This certificate recognizes the department's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report submitted for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2005. This prestigious national award recognizes conformance with the highest standards of preparation for this report. This certificate represents the highest form of recognition awarded in the field of governmental financial reporting.
Accepting this award on behalf of the Department is Sammy Cohen, Director of the Office of Business Services. We would ask that Mr. Cohen remain at the dais to accept another recognition.
5B. Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials International
The School Board is also pleased to recognize the Department of Budget and Finance for a second award, a Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting to the School Board from the Association of School Business Officials International. Once again, this award was granted in recognition of the department's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report submitted for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2005.
The Association of School Business Officials International sponsors this Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting to foster excellence in the preparation and issuance of school system annual financial reports. This prestigious international certificate is the highest form of recognition in school financial reporting.

5C. Chesapeake Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association Regional Awards
The School Board is pleased to recognize the Department of Media and Communications Development for receiving several regional awards, including five awards of excellence, from the Chesapeake Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association. The awards represent a variety of public relations initiatives including print, mixed media, and electronic media projects.
Contest entries came from public and private schools throughout Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. Virginia Beach City Public Schools received the first place awards, an Award of Excellence, for the following projects:
