7. Student, Employee, and Public Awards and Recognition

7. A. Outstanding Attendance – January 2006

The School Board is pleased to recognize the schools with the highest rates of student attendance for the month of January 2006. Representatives from these schools are invited to come forward as their school’s name is announced.

Trantwood Elementary School, with an attendance rate of 97.22% is the recipient of the elementary school attendance certificate. Accepting the school’s certificate is ­­ Principal Patsy Slaughter, and Office Associate, Terry Hill, who is also the school’s SASI manager . Congratulations to the students and staff at Trantwood Elementary for their outstanding attendance in January!

Kemps Landing Magnet School, with an attendance rate of 98.08%, receives the attendance certificate for middle schools for January. Accepting the certificate for Kemps Landing Magnet is English Teacher and National Junior Honor Society sponsor Marcella Rust,

Katherine W., NJHS President and Helen H., NJHS Vice President. Congratulations to the students and staff at Kemps Landing Magnet School for their outstanding student attendance!

At the high school level, the attendance certificate for January 2006 goes to Princess Anne High School who reported a 96.29% student attendance rate. Accepting the school’s certificate is Assistant Principal Iris Nimmo. Congratulations to Princess Anne High students and staff for their outstanding attendance in January!

7. B. Most Improved Attendance – January 2006

The School Board will now recognize the schools with the most improved attendance for the month of January 2006.

A review of attendance data indicates that Windsor Oaks Elementary School had the highest percent of most improved attendance for January with an improvement rate of 3.69% for student attendance. Accepting Windsor Oak’s attendance certificate is Principal Michael Maloney, Assistant Principal, Patty Mashek, and SCA Vice President, Maya B. Congratulations to students and staff at Windsor Oaks Elementary for their improved attendance!

Virginia Beach Middle School had the highest percent of most improved attendance at the middle school level with an improvement rate of 2.52% for student attendance. Accepting Virginia Beach Middle’s certificate is Principal Rita Simpson. Congratulations to Virginia Beach Middle School!

Open Campus High had the highest percent of most improved attendance at the high school level with an improvement rate of 7.18% for student attendance. Accepting Open Campus’ certificate is Josh Darden, Assistant Principal. Congratulations to students and staff at Open Campus High for their improved attendance in January 2006!
