6. Student, Employee and Public Awards and Recognitions

6.A. Recognition of 2005-2006 National Year Round Schools of Merit

The School Board is pleased to recognize representatives from Plaza and Seatack Elementary Schools for being selected as recipients of the 2005-2006 National Year Round School of Merit Award from the National Association of Year Round Education.

Present this evening to accept recognition for this award on behalf of Seatack Elementary School are:

Lyric Thourogood – SCA President
Addison Cadle- SCA Secretary
Andrew Jackson – SCA Historian

Here to accept recognition on behalf on Plaza Elementary School are:

Mary Daniels, Principal
Leigh Caldwell, Intersession Coordinator
Sara Klein, Parent

The Year Round School of Merit Award was presented to only four year-round elementary schools in the United States this year and is based upon commitment to improving the educational experience through the use of a balanced calendar and the reduction of summer learning loss. Schools earning this award serve as national role models for other schools seeking academic excellence through time and learning. Year Round Schools of Merit are chosen based on:

• increased student achievement over a period of time;
• being a leader in educational innovation;
• developing parent/community partnerships;
• placing a premium on student activities;
• the implementation of a balanced calendar and advocacy for year-round education; and
• special recognitions and other awards.
