6. Student, Employee, and Public Awards and Recognition
6.A. Superintendent’s Quality Award
The School Board is pleased to recognize staff from the Offices of Business Services and Purchasing Services, as recipients of the Superintendent’s Quality Award. We’d request that those present from these offices please stand to be recognized. Accepting the award from the Office of Business Services is Kim Hocutt and from the Office of Purchasing Services—Carla Smith.
Nominations for the Quality Award are submitted to the Office of Organizational Development and are selected for recognition based on the quality practices demonstrated.
The Offices of Business Services and Purchasing Services developed an e-commerce and automation project with the goal of reducing the amount of effort required to purchase and pay for the goods and services needed to operate the school division. They devised a multi-pronged approach which included purchasing software allowing electronic processes and approvals; using electronic catalogs for items covered by term pricing agreements that would allow “pick and click” ordering; utilizing web-based contracts for certain items to be placed directly from schools and/or departments; and implementing a procurement card program to empower our employees to work more efficiently. The results and effectiveness of improving these processes have been a reduction (by more than half) in the annual volume of both requisitions and purchase orders, and a conversion of labor intensive paper-based processes into electronic and web-based processes for a small dollar amount, resulting in more streamlined and expedited transactions.
The Board is pleased to present the staff from the Offices of Business Services and Purchasing Services with Commendations of Distinction and the Superintendent’s Quality Award for their efforts. Congratulations!
